Times Too Short!

My Dad's Police Dept. Retirement Party & our family (November 2011)

I got a text from my mom today saying that my dad was asking where I was. I've been wanting to go back to Utah ever since my dad's health has been failing, but I've had to work. Today when I got the text, I knew that I needed to go right away. I've been struggling all day. Just knowing that he isn't doing good and knowing that he's wondering where I am.

I talked to my boss today & she said, "Just go! I'll be fine." Then I had to talk to my knew bosses (I have another part-time job that I just started on Monday.) That was really difficult because I'm not a flaky person and knowing that I just got hired and have to ask them if it's okay if I don't come in next week was really hard...I felt bad. But they are awesome guys and were totally understanding. They told me not to worry about it at all & take all the time I needed.

I feel really blessed that I can leave to go spend whatever time my dad has left without stressing about work.

He's put up such a valiant fight against this terrible disease, lung cancer. He's been so strong and sure that he was going to beat this. His original diagnosis, inoperable 4th stage lung cancer, left us with hope for at least a year. But my dad's a fighter and his year turned into five years. Unfortunately it eventually spread to his brain and after going through several rounds of chemo & radiation, he is now completely bed ridden. I don't know how much longer he has and as I head out to go see him tomorrow (11 hour drive), I pray that he'll hold on until I get there. I need some time with him. I need to tell him how grateful I am to have had a step-dad who's raised & loved me as his own. He sacrificed so much for our large family, and has been an example of unselfish love. During times like this, I want to remind each of you to take advantage of each & every moment you have with your loved ones. You never know how long you'll have with them & it never seems to be enough time.

Mommy Megan & Baby Ariella-1st Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatment

Baby Ariella has started her Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. It was made possible by the donation of loving and caring people. Family, friends and even people who've never even met this little angel, but felt guided to be a part of her Miracle healing process. She's had 6 treatments and is showing some improvement already, a little bit of a cough and a gag reflex-GOOD SIGNS! She's been doing treatments 5 days a week and will be starting treatments 5 days a week 2x a day soon.

Things don't always go the way we want them to. Things don't always happen as quickly as we'd like them to. But it's the unconditional love of family, friends, neighbors and strangers that show us...God is in control and looking out for us everyday. Miracles happen daily, even if we don't always realize it. Look around, be aware and see the Lord's love shining through, blessing you as you in turn bless others. The New Bachelorette Is Emily Maynard-YES!

It's official...gorgeous Emily Maynard will be the next Bachorelette!

During Brad Womack's season of the Bachelor, even the girls in the house loved her. Now that's saying something. Anyone who's ever watched the Bachelor/Bachelorette, know that when girls are competing things turn ugly quickly and the prettier the girl is, the more people try to find something wrong with her. Emily however was the exception to the rule.She had that unusual combination of beauty, class and charm.

Most people have heard of the tragic death of Emily's fiance, NASCAR driver & team owner, Ricky Hendrick. He passed away in a plane crash. She was supposed to be on the plane too but decided not to go. Shortly after the plane crash, Emily found out she was pregnant with their daughter. This sad news was disclosed on the the show and touched everyone's heart.

When Brad Womack chose Emily & proposed to her on Season 15 of the Bachelor, everyone hoped Emily would finally receive her, "Happily Ever After." But it wasn't to be, and the long distance relationship fell apart.

I for one am glad she's back and will be rooting for her.

I'm sure the men will be burning up the phone/email & website trying to date her. I'm predicting this will be a HUGE ratings gold mine for ABC. The season begins in the Spring of 2012. It'll be interesting to see if this single mom can find not just a good husband, but a loving, caring father for her daughter.

I know they're out there...I found one for my three boys.

I can't wait for the show to start, let's hope she finds a good one! Be sure to tune in.

Farewell Monday's

Today is officially my last Monday off. I currently work part-time for a Commercial Real Estate Development Company Tues.-Fri., as an Independent Contractor.

I used to work on Monday's helping out a bookkeeper. When things slowed down for her, and she no longer needed me on Monday's, I was a little worried about how we'd get by without the extra money. But somehow, like always, things just worked out. We were definitely tight, but I really began digging in on my writing & finishing up my book. Monday's became my official "WRITING" day.

As I finished writing my book (which I actually hand wrote-that's just how I like to write) I began struggling with typing it all up. Writing is fun...typing is not.

Subconsciously I think it may have brought me closer to my fear, my dreaded fear of failure. So my typing began to stop, which in turn stopped my book progress. Something always seemed to come up on Monday's. I became too busy to type. I know, I know, I shouldn't just limit my typing to Monday's, but that was my 'designated' day, or so I told myself. Now I still am several, several, several chapters away from finishing my typing, putting my book together & submitting it.

Unfortunately, as with all things, my "Monday's" are coming to an end. Today is my final Monday off. It’s fitting that it's raining outside, a dark, dreary yet cozy day.

A new Monday job fell right smack into my lap. It wasn't solicited or searched for. It was gift wrapped and handed to me by a friend who does books for a very large company in Newport Beach. They needed someone to come in & help with an overload of work they have. My friend told them about me, I met with them last week and today they offered me the position. It will be every Monday & a few other days after I finish my other job at 3. The money will be so helpful. It will ease some of our financial strain, and I'm learning to walk through the doors that the Lord opens for me. This is definitely one of them.

So Monday's, I've enjoyed our time together. I've grown. I've started a dream because of you. I now will find the determination and drive to finish it because I can no longer continue to take advantage of you. You have been a bright light on Sunday nights, as I looked forward to spending time with you in the morning. So today, my very last day alone with you, I say Farewell Monday's! It's time to move on to a new chapter in my life.

Top Football Prospects-So You Want a Scholarship?

With the rising costs of College, most people are looking to get some type of scholarship for their kids. It's very competitive and most people pay the extra money to have outside coaching in their sport of choice. My son isn't able to get the extra help because finances are tight. So, he relies on good ol' fashion hard work, talent and of course good grades...hopefully he'll get a scholarship offer for football. He doesn't care if it's a DI or DII college, he just wants to play the sport he loves and get an education. Elijah ended his junior year receiving 2nd Team All League Linebacker AND Runningback. He set a school record for the longest kickoff return for a touchdown, 99 yards and was featured on Rogan's Heroes after the Sunday night NFL game. So let the marketing begin.

You Make a Difference In My Day

The day after my last post, I found myself feeling much better. There's just something therapeutic about writing. It releases all the pent up feelings...letting them flow freely over the internet. And to my surprise, some very special blogging "friends" left wonderful, encouraging, and thoughtful replies.

My dad is still on a roller coaster ride with his health. Not much has changed, he continues to fight. But it's a new day, he's still with us and I am grateful that the initial 1 year diagnosis has turned into 5+ years. We've been blessed. We've been given more time with him than we were initially expecting. So even though things are tough, we still cling to the hope of a Miracle & know that God has the final say.

My son is doing better. He's had some struggles to overcome but he did in fact learn a valuable lesson that will benefit him in the long wrong. Everything happens for a reason, even if we can't see it while we're going through it. Yes...it was a hard week, but the sun continues to shine & the raw emotions settle down. Each day brings renewed hope.

I just want to thank you for being a part of my life, for accepting me, caring and taking the time to leave comments. It means a lot...you make a difference in my day!

Just Needing To Vent

This week's been really challenging for me. My dad isn't doing well. They haven't given him much time left, but he continues to fight. The cancer has taken his strength, stamina, and ability to perform everyday normal activities, but it can't take his incredible spirit and will. What he's had to endure is beyond anything I can imagine. But he never complains & when he was able, he always approached each day looking to do something for others, ignoring what his own struggles were. Unfortunately he's bed ridden now and I'm unable to be in Utah to help. It's tearing me up.

To multiply things, my oldest son has been going through some difficult times recently. Things that as a mom you wish you could step in and fix, but I can't. It's learning lessons, things he has to do on his own, I can't rescue him. It hurts my heart to see him going through so much right now. But I know I can't save my kids from every life learning lesson, they have to go through the tough times, just like I did. It's just hard to sit back and watch, especially with my emotions so raw right now, I feel like crying at the drop of a hat (which is not like me...I rarely break down.)

Each day I make sure to do my scripture study & pray before I leave the house, which is the only thing that's keeping me from completely losing it, knowing I'm not alone, that my Heavenly Father cares & is with me through all of this.

I just needed to let it out tonight. I know how caring and supportive you all are, so thanks for letting me vent.

Natascha's 23 Today!

Today my step-daughter Natascha, turns 23. Taschy's always been cute, bubbly, and fun loving. As the only girl growing up with 5 brother's, she learned to hold her own. She always maintained a big sister, 'I'm in charge attitude' which helped keep the boys in line & I'm sure helped her keep her sanity!lol

She learned patience from the hours she had to sit on the baseball field, basketball courts & football fields, watching her brothers games.

She played soccer & softball when she was younger, but found that she truly loved cheerleading. She was always tiny, which gave her the opportunity for the prime 'showcase' position. It was perfect for her & suited her spirited, BIG personality. She was a flyer. She was lifted, balanced on wobbly young arms & thrown...sometimes dropped, all the while maintaining a smile. Year after year her cheer squad placed 1st at the Pop Warner Competitions.

As amazing as she was at cheering, she's even more incredible as a daughter & sister. No matter what's going on in her day, she'll drop everything if her family needs her. She is such a giving, caring, loving person.

During junior high & high school she became involved with her church youth group. This was when she fell in Love with the Lord & her husband, Jeremy.

She began to set an example for her siblings. Showing through her words & actions what is truly important in this life. She was determined to make sure her brothers didn't travel down the wrong paths. Once again showing her incredible ability to lead & serve.

Today on her special day, I celebrate the amazing, beautiful, special young lady she is. I thank the Lord for blessing our family with her. She is a true gift to each one of us!

12-Still Going Strong

12 years ago we made a life changing decision. It wasn't a normal situation, it involved 7 other people. 7 different personality's, needs, wants, likes & dislikes. 8 people who needed to learn how to love each other unconditionally. Life can be complicated when you make a decision like we did.

To say it was easy to arrive at that decision would be a lie. It took time, two years to be exact. Two years of making sure it would work. When my hubby finally proposed, we still couldn't be sure both sets of our 3 children would get along. But what we were sure of was our love for one another. We knew that even though it wasn't always 'sunshine & roses' it would be worse not to spend every day together. We decided that whatever obstacles still stood in our way...our Love would conquer all.

Love...the word conjures up pictures of smiling, flushed faces, stealing glances, nervously stumbling over words, butterfly's in your belly, first kiss, anticipating phone calls, late night phone conversations and playful outings.

But the reality of real Love is different. It's wanting to be with a person even when those first new feelings fade. It's learning to accept each other with all their faults. It's working through all the fights over little & big issues. It's standing by each other even when it gets difficult. It's learning to talk when you feel like running away. It's allowing someone to see your weaknesses and realizing they love you anyways.

On my 12th Wedding Anniversary, I realize that all the difficult times we went through taught us that Love is something worth working for. Love grows deeper & stronger with each hurdle you overcome. Love is not the exciting feelings you have in the beginning. Love is the true joy you feel when you look at your partner, your rock, your helpmate, your stability, your other half, and realize that through each year, you've grown to love each deeper, with an honest appreciation for the TRUE meaning of Love. The work required & the life changing rewards you achieve together, as husband and wife.

12 years ago on December 31, 1999, I said, "I do" to Real Love. It was the best decision of my life...I found my other half.

While in Utah my lil brother Bryan wanted me to take some pics of him with his niece & nephews.

So I started scoping out different spots to shoot. I kept driving past this field directly behind my sister April's house. I made Anthony go over to take some test shots w/me before we made everyone meet us there. It was such a cool spot! Unfortunately, it took everyone soooo long to get there, I began to lose my daylight (I don't have a big flash for night shots.)

My lil bro and I were arguing about where to take the best shots (we're both bossy & thick headed~guess it's a family trait:) He went running so far out in the field that the pics weren't clear. Eventually he had to listen to me & come closer. Besides, I wasn't going to walk too far out there...who knows if there were snakes! yikes! They were a little nervous too...city slickers!

No, Not the Sleeping Music!

On Christmas Eve we went to a special church musical service. They flew in an AMAZING female singer from Chicago. They all dressed in 1940's attire, with the same microphone's as pictured above and played old jazz style Christmas songs. It was as if you'd just stepped back in time...off the cold streets, straight into a jazz club. That was the ambiance of the evening, very relaxed, layed back & COOL.

The music was incredibly soothing. I found myself finally unwinding from the stressful days of Christmas shopping. Slowly, my eyelids began to feel heavy...the beautiful, melodic sounds of the instruments & voices, lulling me. I fought to keep my eyes open. Finally at the end of the program, they had us stand up & join them in song...snapping me back into reality.

When we got in the car, the boys told me the music had made them sleepy. All of a sudden I flashed back to an earlier time, many years ago, six rambuctious kids in the back of our Astro Van (the only car big enough to cart around all 8 of us back then.)

I had a sure fire way of controlling them on our long family trips to Utah. I'd shout, over the arguing, yelling, crying & whatever else was going on back there, "That's it, I'm putting the SLEEPING MUSIC on!" They'd shout in unison, "NO, NOT THE SLEEPING MUSIC!"

The first time I did this, my husband thought I was crazy, "That's not going to work!" But mom's know. I'd taken a mental note on several occasions, the calming effect that (KOST 103.5) had on my kids. Which I initially put on as a punishment when they were misbehaving in the car. But every single time, they would nod off. So this became my weapon. No threats of pulling the car over & taking care of business needed...just the threat & follow through of the dreaded, "SLEEPING MUSIC."

To my husband's surprise, shortly after a station change, 6 little heads would nod over, leaning on shoulders or laps, followed by the wonderful sound of silence in the back of the car & soothing music to calm our nerves. Time & time again, KOST to the rescue.

I looked back at my now youngest, 16 & 17 year old boys, and asked them, "Do you remember the SLEEPING MUSIC?" They both smiled and said, "Yeah." Later that night when I asked the older kids the same question, they said, "Oh yeah," laughing, "we hated that!"

Those special memories are now words of wisdom to all of you parents who still have young children. There's no punishment quite like SLEEPING MUSIC!

As I've become older, I've realized that nothing is as special as family. Even with all it's drama...family is the most important thing we have in our lives.

This Christmas was my first time without Jullien, who wasn't able to come home from New York. Luckily, all our other children live close and we were surrounded by love, and laughter.

We celebrated Christmas Eve at my sister-in-laws house, we at tamales (Costa Rican & Mexican style.) We exchanged gifts & we tried something new this year to keep the costs down. Each of the older kids brought $20.00 gift cards, & did the 'white elephant' gift card exchange for the first time. It made it really fun for them, especially when they found out they could take each other's gifts...definitely a lot of laughing, yelling & trying to hide the most sought after gift cards from each other!

Christmas morning, we opened presents with our kids & headed off to church to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. After an amazing service, I was still wiped out from my 4 hour, non-sleep nights over the past week...so we took a nap. Later that evening we headed out to Glendora for Christmas dinner with my sister, Stacy, Jay & family. I'm so grateful she's such an amazing cook, because, I'M NOT!

It was another joyous, wonderful year spent with the love of my family...I'm truly blessed! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

I awoke the day after my last blog post to a message from Megan telling me that during the early hours of the morning, an annonymous donor covered the entire cost of Ariella's 1st 40 treatments. I immediately felt the tears well up in my eyes, followed by crying. To see generosity, kindness, unselfishness and love showered down on Baby Ariella was too much for me. I lost it. I was moved. I was touched with the true meaning of Christmas.

Megan was able to schedule an immediate appointment and Ariella had her first treatment the same day she received the donation. Absolutely AMAZING & an answer to Prayers. Someone was prompted and moved by God to help this little Angel. Several others continue to donate as she will require 40+ treatments. BABY ARIELLA UPDATE: Be Part Of A Christmas Miracle

Baby Ari is a miracle. She's alive...she's a fighter who continues to defy the odds. It's no wonder~her name means: "Lion of God." This little Angel has had the heart of a lion. It's been a long journey since the near accidental drowning, but with Faith, Hope and lot's of Prayer...another possible miracle may be in the making. It's been a while since I've posted an update. Ari's mom Megan asked me to share the latest information with you regarding her progress.

Hello Family and Friends,

Ariella is doing well. She is starting to move her left arm and bring it up half way. We still have high hopes for her. She will soon receive physical and occupational therapy 4 times per week, starting next week. We are excited to hear from her therapists that they too believe she will just WAKE UP! I've heard it before, but 5 1/2 months later, I still love hearing it. It strengthens our hope and faith. Most, if not all of you, have showed your support in so many ways and we are grateful for your help and continued support.

In addition to therapy, we are excited to hear that the medical field has found something that is helping people like Ariella, (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.) People are literally coming out of coma's and walking out the door within a few weeks of treatment. Once we heard about this miracle therapy, we had such a good feeling about it. Will this be the remedy that we've been waiting for? We are very optimistic! Especially after we met with Dr. Underwood, MD & D.O.

When we were in the hospital after the accident, doctors told us, due to the damage, her brain cells (or brain matter), would die off and the body would eventually consume it. We repeated this to Dr. Underwood who said, "The brain doesn't die, it just goes dormant." With this treatment, the idea is to put the body under pressure while pumping 100% oxygen - stimulating growth in the brain and create new blood vessels, causing them to go into tissue they stopped "feeding". Once the "dormant" brain tissue is being fed, it comes back! They can literally help Ari's brain regenerate!!!

Also, once we left the office, my husband, Nathan, turns to me and says, "Megan, do you remember what I blessed her with? I blessed Ari saying her brain was not dead, it was dormant." A wave of chills came over me and I KNEW, this is it. Heavenly Father has lead us to this point for a reason.

Starting at a minimum of 40 treatments, we are looking to raise $3000. If you can help, we would be extremely grateful. Thank you for everything and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Who's The Real Gift? Happy Birthday Mom!

Me & My Mom (w/brother David)

Yesterday was my mom's birthday. It's a very special day because we share a birthday! She never fails to let me know, "You were my best Birthday present ever!" Now, I'm not so sure of that during the dreaded teen years, when I was known as, "The Mouth." I always had a mean comment or response to anything I didn't like or that she wanted me to do. This was quickly followed by a glare. Which my mom shot back, "If looks could kill! Wipe that look off your face, Lisa Michelle, before I wipe it off for you! lol!

That's my mom! She's never taken crap from anyone. She's tiny but feisty. I'll never forget when we were younger and went to watch my dad, Dave, play hockey, (he was a goalie for the semi-pro hockey team, The Reno Aces.) Now back in the day, Hockey fans were a rowdy, foul mouthed group (probably not much different than today's fans.) During the game, this guy, who was sitting just a few rows away from us, began heckling, swearing and acting like a complete idiot.

Now as memories are...I don't remember exactly what transpired between my mom and this guy, I think she may have told him to watch his mouth (mama bear protecting her cubs.) But what I do remember with vivid clarity is the man saying, "F_ _ _ Y_ _" to my mom. Whoa...not something you EVER want to say to her. She scaled those bleachers like a track star jumping hurdles, reached the guy with lightening speed before he even knew what hit him. She had him by the collar of his shirt...all 5'3, 100 lbs of her lifting the 6' foot + guy up out of his seat, while he stammered apologies. Yep, she didn't take too kindly to someone swearing in front of her kids.

That's the kind of mom she's always been, loving & protective. Her kids and family are her life. She's always there, under any circumstances, no matter how difficult, challenging, painful...she's waiting to help, offer advice, encouragement or protection from unforeseen enemy's. Her feisty, never give up, keep looking and pushing ahead, things will work out, things will get better, YOU ARE LOVED attitude has helped each and every one of her 7 kids, their spouses, her husband and grandchildren. She is our rock, she is our family's strength. Her smile, energy & jokes, lifting us up...always showing us that Faith in Christ will see us through all things.

What my mom never realized is...SHE HAS BEEN THE GIFT TO ME!

There's something to be said for living somewhere where colors transform with the seasons. The first sight of changing leaves gives an old familiar place an entirely different look. On my recent visit to Utah, I decided to drive by my parents old home in Provo, Utah. It took me a few minutes to find the exact street, but once I headed up the hill, the memories of a time years ago came flooding back, joyful, full of life, laughter, unforeseen loss, sorrow...the colors of life. A home where we spent life changing moments together, loving, comforting, encouraging, and lifting up when we needed each other the most.

I only lived in Utah for two short years. Moving when my two boys, Josh & Jullien were babies. As a single mom I needed my family and there's no place like my parents loving home.

Memories...Colors....Life...Changes.

Family is like changing colors~nothing stays the same...learning to embrace each new season.

Thankful In Utah

This Thanksgiving I have so much to be grateful for. We were able to travel to Utah to spend some time with my family. My dad was retiring from the police department after 35 years of service.

He made a special request to have his entire family here for it. He's been battling 4th stage lung cancer and

now brain cancer, which hasn't crushed his spirit.

I'm thankful to my mom, for her faithfulness in listening to the Lord and following His will for her life and the example she and my dad always show. I'm thankful for the knowledge that the Lord is watching over us each and everyday.

Jullien's 20 Today-Is It Possible?

20 years ago today, I gave birth to a long, skinny, string bean baby boy, with huge lips and dimples. A persistent little bugger who wouldn't let me out of his sight.

Bright and early I called my son, Jullien, to wish him a Happy 20th Birthday. As the words were leaving my mouth, my mind screamed, "How is this possible?" What's even harder to comprehend...he's been gone for 3 years already, since he was 17 years old, when I sent his pictures to a Top New York modeling agency. They swept him off to the Big Apple, Paris & Italy two days after graduating high school.

Imagine, my little guy, Juju, who spent his life hiding and scowling from the camera, now making a living gracing the pages of magazines, video's & strutting in front of hundreds of flashing camera lights on the runway.

He perfected the intense look he's famous for on the football field, baseball field & basketball court. He has an inner intensity that pushes him to excel, and succeed at whatever he puts his mind to. He learned to be an achiever by having to compete with kids a year or two older than him in every sport. He started school when he was 4, (which to this day, I never hear the end of.) But I think it has helped him realize that in life, everything requires hard work and dedication, no one is going to hand you anything.

After an accident this past year which left him potentially scarred & possibly ending his career, he stayed strong, did what he could...finally completely healing. After getting his start and being represented by Red Models for two years, (whom he is very grateful to and continues to maintain a close friendship w/agents George & Dave) he decided he needed a fresh start. He received several requests from Top Agency's to sign with them and finally decided to go with the very large, well established, worldwide agency, Major Model Management,...once again succeeding.

He has made me so proud! Even during unforeseen life set backs, he picks himself up, brushes it off and moves on...refusing to give up. These are the same characteristics he has displayed since he was a toddler. Persistence. It's who he is. It's an inner personal drive that is undeterred. It's what makes him special. A leader. An example.

Today I celebrate a special gift from God, my son Jullien. I Love You & am proud to be your mother!

HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY JUJU!

After receiving a prayer request for a young, 13 year old, Pop Warner Football player, Donnovan Hill, who fractured his spine last Sunday in the Orange Bowl Championship game, I felt like I needed to do something. I have a little talent...not something most people would consider anything special, but it has served me well in a number of situations. I often refer to myself as the research queen. I can hunt down information, find email addresses, names, companies, whatever it may be...I'm persistent. I decided that this family needed some hope, guidance, and direction in the days, weeks, and months ahead. I can't begin to imagine, nor would I want to, what this family and boy will be having to deal with. BUT...I wanted to do something.

I had five boys play Pop Warner Football and thank the Lord, nothing serious ever happened. But it touched my heart & I started looking for help. I came across an amazing, incredible man, Eddie Canales & his son, Chris, who started the non-profit organization, Gridiron Heroes, after Chris was paralyzed in the last game of his high school season. They had nowhere to turn. There wasn't any help out there. Most people wanted to sweep the 'ugly side' of contact sports under the rug. So instead of sitting in their sorrow, they decided to make a difference. Eddie Canales & his son, Chris have made such an incredible impact on the lives of so many athletes seriously injured in sports. Eddie is one of CNN's Top 10 Hero's & is up for the CNN HERO OF THE YEAR AWARD (PLEASE VOTE FOR HIM HERE-he'll win money for his charity!) He also was featured on HBO, the Today Show & several news feature stories such as MYFOX Houston.

I sent an email to Eddie & that very same day he called me back. He wants to help this family. He's lived it. He is someone who can make a difference in this young boys life. He didn't hesitate...he stepped forward and offered his assistance, all the way from Texas. He has now been in touch with the Pop Warner Organization & will be contacting the family as well.

I'm not sharing this with you for a pat on the back or an 'atta girl.' It's to remind each of you, when you have an ability, no matter how small or insignificant it may be...please, take a step out of your comfort zone and do whatever you can to help someone in need. You never know the difference one small act can make in someone's life. BE THE DIFFERENCE!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

On Saturday my boss and her sister went to go watch a Halloween Thriller dance out in Riverside that she heard about from the news. Unfortunately the dancers never performed that day, but they they had a nice day out. While heading back to their car they spotted a Ford Explorer with their hazard lights on, obviously broken down in the middle of the road. The cars were piled up behind her...so my boss, who's 60, and her sister who's also in her 60's ran over, got beside & behind the car and yelled to the lady who had her window cracked to put it in neutral and they'd push her off to the side. The lady struggled, but eventually was able to, never looking back to see who had offered or saying anything. As they began to push, a young guy ran from across the street to help.

While struggling behind the weight of the car, they noticed there was a man in the passenger seat & two teenage kids sitting in the back. The man slightly opened his door as the car begin to slowly roll due to the efforts of the two 60+ year old ladies...but then closed it. He actually sat there letting them push him safely to the side of the road!

The lady waved her hand at them, as my boss & her sister looked at each other in amazement but just said, "Well, I guess we did our good deed for the day."

All I can say about that is, "WOW...ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"

Did You Say Free Tickets?

On Saturday we received free tickets from a friend to the UCLA Football game. This was a great treat for us since we're always on such a tight budget, we don't get to go out very much. Luckily we enjoy each others company or there'd be trouble!lol

There are two boys (Jordan Zumwalt-starting linebacker & Luke Gane-tight end & special teams) who play for UCLA & played at our high school with my son's Jullien & Dillon. It was so fun getting to see boys you know & have watched grow up, playing at the next level. UCLA won, and after the game we let everyone know we're good luck & they need to let us know whenever they have extra tickets.

To see Luke so healthy & getting playing time as a preferred walk on at tight end & special teams is so amazing. The Lord has truly blessed him! We stayed after the big win to say Hi to Jordan & Luke. We're so happy to see them doing so well, they both deserve it...GREAT KIDS (not really kids, but they'll always be to us!)

We then took a shuttle back to our car & headed around the corner to Old Town Pasadena to grab a bite to eat to finish off our date night. I LOVE date nights...especially when we get to see a football game! So I want to give a BIG thanks to the Gane family! PERFECT NIGHT!

Homecoming Fashion 2011

Over the years fashion & dance rules sure have changed. Most of the kids would rather go with a group of friends rather than have dates. They want to "keep their options open." My hubby never wants to let Elijah go unless he has a date...so I have to tell him, "Times have changed since the 80's!"

So let me share a little Homecoming 2011 Fashion Show with y'all. The boys tend to dress down & have fun with their looks, while the girls follow the latest fashion trends. Luckily the internet has afforded us with an availability to view fashion from all over the world. This definitely helps the girls in their dress/shoe choices, since in our laid back beach community dressing up usually consists of putting on a pair of closed toe shoes instead of flip flops.

The Challenge-Roggin's Heroes-Elijah Herrera

Last night we were sitting around the t.v., eating warm chocolate chip cookies, big ice cold glasses of milk and watching the weekly Channel 4 show, The Challenge with Fred Roggin & Petros Papadakis, which comes on after the NFL game.

Now let's rewind to preface my story, last Friday night, my son Elijah, set an Edison High School record, by returning a kick off 99 yards for a touchdown. I was snapping pictures as usual from the stands, which unfortunately doesn't allow me to 'watch' it like everyone else. It's a bird's eye view through a lens...definitely not the full effect of the event.

The week prior I was in the hospital & unable to attend his big homecoming game (he plays running back, outside linebacker & kick off return) we won! Luckily this week I was there to witness this huge accomplishment. Our high school is a Division I, Powerhouse School with tons of GREAT players over the years, who've gone on to play at USC, UCLA, OKLAHOMA, BOISE STATE, UTAH, BYU...just to name a few. To have Elijah entered in the record books is quiet an honor.

Fast forward...my husband, Elijah & myself relaxing on the couch, waiting for our favorite part of the show to come on, "Roggin's Heroes," where they feature the TOP High School plays of the week, to the tune of music & the commentator's. Suddenly towards the end of the show, they say, "Well if you like that, you'll LOVE this, Elijah Herrera..." WHAT? We all perk up, lean towards the t.v. & Anthony says, "HEY, THERE YOU ARE!" Elijah's big, record setting play, featured on one of our favorite shows...and I actually got to see the whole run away from my camera! I started screaming (Ya, I'm kind of obnoxious when I get excited.) Elijah said, "Mom, I didn't get to hear what they said at the end because you were yelling to loud!" Oops...

So here it is...SO PROUD OF HIM! He's worked so incredibly hard this year. Hoping it'll pay off with some scholarship offers to D1 or DII school's. He's only a junior so he still has one more year. CONGRATS ELIJAH!

What Are the Odds?

I hadn't seen my dad and step-mom in a couple of years. They live in Reno, NV and aren't able to come down here to California very often. And unfortunately with our busy schedules, we're not able to go visit them. That's when I came up with a brilliant idea. My dad, LOVES football, so I told him he should come down and see Elijah play this year. He agreed!

We planned the date, (made sure it would be during one of our 'tough' games) and had it all set up for 3 weeks from the date of our phone call. In the meantime, I scheduled my outpatient laporascopy surgery, thinking I'd be fine once they got here. But as you saw from my last post...what are the odds that I'd have complications?

So, the day they got here, my pains started & I was back in the hospital for the ENTIRE time they were here. Don't get me wrong, I'm SO thankful that they were here to take care of my family. They were able to see my son's game, take pictures of him before homecoming, and spend time with all of them...BUT, C'MON, REALLY? I didn't get to hang out with them & visit or anything, (yes, that was said in a very whiny voice-poor me!lol!) .

Hospital-The Ugly Details

"Did I make the right decision?" This question ran through my mind like a hamster on a treadmill. I chose to push for a procedure, hoping to alleviate pain. Now that choice has placed me back in the hospital.

Debated about posting this lovely shot of myself...but then thought you wouldn't get the full affect of my ordeal without it.

I went in last Tuesday for a Laparoscopy to look for re-occurring Endometriosis. They found tons of adhesion's and removed them. It was an out-patient procedure so I went home the same day.

WARNING: Gross Content (now's your chance not to read!)

The next morning I felt fine, so I ate a PB&J sandwich. That was it...the nausea, pain and vomiting kicked in. By 4:00 a.m., I was throwing up tons of green bile. I knew something was really wrong (having had the procedure done 4 previous times with NO PROBLEMS.) I called my Dr., he said, "You may have an obstruction, head straight to the hospital."

I knew what I was in store for me...the dreaded NG Tube! This is a long tube that required two nurses to shove up my nose (crackling and crunching) as they continued to push it down my throat telling me to take big gulping drinks/sounds while drinking ice water, to stop from gagging and choking as they slid it down to it's final destination inside my stomach. Taping the tube to my nose with FLESH colored tape, which gave me a great look (long tube nose) to add to the pain. I was given Morphin and a CT scan indicating I had an obstruction in the small intestine from the procedure (handling/removal of the adhesion's which happens in about 85% of patients.)

I waited 14 hrs in the ER bed (no beds available in a room) with some crazy patients all around me. One guy was so out of control, 5 security guards followed him as he ran by screaming, swearing and threatening. Which caused me to instantly scan the room for the nearest exit in case he ended up having a gun or knife. I can't believe what goes on in there! I was finally admitted to a room, head pounding, taken for more x-rays (4 hrs on an x-ray table waiting for the Barium to travel down.) Finally they returned me to my room, continuing to bring a portable X-ray machine up every hour, telling me that the dye wasn't moving down very quickly (ummm duh, I have a blockage!)

I was desperate to be done so they could hook the suction back up to my NG tube and drain the excess out of my stomach (it was swollen like a 6 month pregnant woman-NO EXAGGERATION!) I suddenly began throwing up HALF a bucket of green bile mixed w/barium. Shaking, needing to rush to the bathroom to clean up, I swiftly set the bucket on the table to unplug my IV. All of a sudden, behind me I heard a loud SPLASH. The weight of the swaying contents propelled the lime green bile off the table & across the entire floor. I was trapped. I couldn't slide the IV unit across the bile, so a sat on the edge of the bed, my bile holding me prisoner from cleaning/washing/brushing my teeth. I frantically pushed the red button for the nurse, who said they were coming. After 5 minutes- pushing it again. Finally 15 minutes later (turns out my little 'episode' happened right smack in the middle of a shift change.) I eventually made it, but had two more LARGE barfing episodes.

I then asked my nurse to please change my lovely 'flesh' colored band aid holding my NG tube in because it smelled like vomit (huge mistake.) She couldn't get the tape off. I held the tube as she yanked, pulled, twisted and slowly cut it. While the tube moved up and down my nose and throat, gagging me, and causing me to sneeze about 15 times in a row over and over again. I finally lost it! I'd had enough. I'm normally the type to just suck it up, I NEVER lose it when it comes to pain. My hubby got a little stressed and nervous watching me cry. I finally said, in the middle of a sneeze/gag attack, "I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE! JUST OPERATE ON ME ALREADY AND FIX THE PROBLEM!" But I quickly grabbed hold of myself again, and felt bad I let myself snap like that:(

The next morning at 7:00 a.m. They took the final x-ray. It took an entire day to get the Barium through me (it normally takes 2hrs) talk about a blockage huh?

The next day brought one more episode. My IV began to leak. When they came to move it, my veins (due to dehydration) collapsed. They stuck me 4 separate times, one time causing blood to spurt out all over the bed and down my arm, while she called the nurse to bring more gauze. They told me they had the vein & the bleeding and burning I was experiencing was due to the fact that I jerked my arm. I told the nurse that it 'didn't feel right.' When she rudely replied, "LIKE I SAID..." A few minutes later she hooked up the IV and my arm began to swell up like a balloon. She walked back in and I said, "Does this look normal to you?" Boy, her attitude changed once she took one look at my elephantitised arm!lol! I wanted to say, "From now on, LISTEN TO YOUR PATIENTS!" But I didn't, she changed her attitude after that. Finally a 4th nurse tried to get the IV into a vein in my hand and it took!YES! My arms are sore and look like a bruised up drug addict now, but I survived without losing it again (proud of myself, I must say!)

After 5 days in the hospital, I was finally released on Tuesday. All in all I had AMAZING nurses (only two bad night time nurses.) I was even able to send out a prayer request for one of the nurses, through my church after talking to her about personal stuff for a while. I wanted to try to make the best of a difficult situation. We all go through tough times, but remembering that you have a choice in how you act helped me to keep a positive attitude...for the most part:)

Right now, I'm not completely out of the woods and need to slowly ease back into eating solids and stay on a low fiber diet for a while. Just had my first 'solid' food in 8 days- Cream of Wheat & it was the best thing I've ever tasted in my life!

Somehow, I always end up having the strangest things happen to me. But I've learned to trust God in ALL things and this has helped me become stronger through each and every obstacle.

Help For Lung Cancer Cough

I'm reaching out to all of you for help. As most of you know, my dad (step-dad), Dave has been battling 4th stage inoperable lung cancer. He has defied the odds. It has been 4 years since his original diagnosis.

Lately however we received some disturbing news that it has traveled to his brain. We continue to Pray and have Faith that the Lord can heal him. He already has given us 4 years since his original diagnosis.

The immediate problem my dad is facing right now however is the horrendous cough. It is 24/7 and is completely debilitating. He needs rest so his body can heal, but the cough keeps him awake. I'm hoping that someone will read this post who has experienced or had a family member/friend go through this and may have heard of something that gives relief for 'lung cancer cough.'

Tough Knocks

Last week, my son's high school football team, Edison, was featured on OCVARSITY.COM. Under normal conditions that would be a good thing. But what took place on Friday, September 30th, was anything but special. Our Varsity Football team played against rival, private school-Mater Dei. At half time we were trailing, 13-0. We rallied back proving that Edison has what it takes...amazing will & determination to never quit.

I was proud of the team & my son, Elijah Herrera (#9.) He scored two touchdown's in the second half, as we held the lead for the first time 20-16. To seal the win, we only needed to hold Mater Dei. Then, on the final play of the game...well, you can watch this short clip and see for yourselves.

This Thursday we start league play. My dad and step-mom will be driving down from Reno, NV to see Elijah play for the first time ever! This is really exciting for him, he's worked so hard this year & knowing that his grandparents will be there to cheer him on will give him added motivation. We're playing the most difficult team in our league, Los Alamitos. I'm sure we learned a valuable lesson from our last game that will help us succeed in our bid for 2011 Sunset League Champions. Let's go Edison bring that 'WILL, DETERMINATION, EXECUTION, FOLLOW THROUGH, TEAMWORK, and CHARGER PRIDE and you will prevail!

Happy 43rd Birthday John-WE MISS YOU!

My brother John's birthday & me

Today my brother John would've been 43 years old. I often wonder what he would look like. If he would have more wrinkles than me so I could tease him about it and get him mad at me.
He always had a quick temper and I loved playing jokes and teasing him unmercifully.

What are big sister's for?

When he was little, he did everything I told him, even playing with Barbie's because I promised to play cars with him if he did. But once we were done, I said, "No, I don't feel like playing cars."

He'd get so mad at me, cry and tell on me.

I often wonder if my teasing and tormenting contributed to his quick temper!lol!

The two of us spent every summer in Reno, NV for a month visiting our dad. During our vacation my dad & step mom, who have property up at Frenchman's, we learned to entertain ourselves. Hiking, catching frogs, fishing, sleeping out in the open on cots under the stars (now that I think about it, I wonder why we or our parents never worried about bears!lol! I wouldn't do it now.)
John was a good sport & while using our imaginations to fill our days,
I decided we'd have a balance beam competition on the trees that had fallen over the river.
I'd do the first trick & then he had to top me.

Needless to say, I liked to play games I knew I'd win.

He'd eventually fall into the water giving me a good laugh at his expense!

As the years went by and he grew bigger and stronger, I was a little more careful about teasing because he chased me down. I needed to make sure I was close enough to the bathroom to lock myself inside, laughing at him as he pounded on the door.

Usually I just gave him a daily scare. Hiding around a corner, jumping out, screaming,

just to see him freeze in a karate position and laugh at him.

He got me back when we were older. Driving me in the snow, down the back roads in Utah, spinning us around in the car while I yelled at him to stop before we got in an accident, he just laughed at me. Yep, he had years of torment to make up for.

He had an incredible sense of humor, fun loving, dare devil and always the life of the party.

As the years go by, the love never lessens.

Happy Birthday John, I love and miss you and will see you again one day.

Until then, I will honor you annually with the fun good memories that you left for all of us.

Raging Ocean's Power at the Wedge

The ocean always captivates me...with it's calming, serene ability to 'take you away' from all the troubles & worries. But to see the other side, the power, force and danger is mesmerizing!

A few weeks back we had a HUGE swell. I wasn't able to make it down to the Wedge when it was at it's peak, but the day after still had big crowds lining the beach to watch the daring body surfers attempt to safely ride the waves.

The lifeguards only allowed the Professionals/Locals in the water...so we got to view the best of the best. I needed some shots so I squeezed, pushed, and maneuvered myself right into a front row spot, then pulled my hubby up with me. I'll find a way to get through the mob if it's for a photo!

I miss my Blog!

I used to post every couple of days. Writing about random things that happened to me during my week, but since I decided to post about all the MUST SEE places in Maui, I find myself needing more time than usual to post the best pictures out of over 300+ that I took AND find the mile markers to coincide with them. No easy task! Especially since my next post is my FAVORITE spots.

Then there's my book to finish typing, pictures to download, Bible study, weekly Prayer requests/story's to get out, football games, team dinners...etc., etc.

The problem is I enjoy them all and in the moment...I can do them all. But time is stingy and seems to get in the way of all I need to do...I need more of it!

My hubby tells me I always put too much on my plate, over-committing myself. He's probably right, but I get excited about things...in the moment...feeling like I can accomplish everything I've said, "YES!" to.

So something has to give...and it appears, to be my Blog lately.

When Opportunity Knocks

On Friday night, Elijah Herrera (#9) had his Varsity football game against, Dana Hills High School. He plays Linebacker & rotates in at running back for the Edison Chargers. He didn't get very many offensive rotations in the first half of the game, but played Linebacker the entire 1st half & did great on Defense. We had a 6 point lead (13-7) heading into half-time, which is a little too close for comfort.

At the start of the second half, Elijah was put into the position as the main running back, when the starter became injured. He didn't waste the opportunity. He quickly took, hand off-after hand off, 10 yards at a time, moving the ball down to the end zone, breaking tackles to finally score on a 40 yard touchdown run.

In life, we each have moments of opportunities. Things that seem to fall into our laps. We can run from them in fear and doubt, or we can choose to face it head on.

I'm so proud of Elijah, he stepped up, never fearing that he wouldn't be good enough. He was ready and he made the most of his opportunity. He had 10 carries and ran for 103 yards. Propelling our offense to a huge victory, 34-13.

He was interviewed by a reporter for the newspaper after the game. He ended the interview by humbly saying, "The offensive line did an excellent job tonight."

Giving them credit, knowing that without the lineman blocking for him...his accomplishments wouldn't have been possible. I'm so proud of him! His hard work, dedication & trust in the Lord helped him step up, 'When Opportunity Knocked.'

Hawaii On a Budget-PART II

The second day in Maui, Hawaii, we planned on heading up the road to Hana. We were a little nervous because we both get EXTREMELY car sick. Last trip to Maui (7 years ago), we didn't even attempt it. I've always regretted it & swore that if I ever had the chance to go back I'd do it. We were prepared; armed with our trusty motion sickness wrist bands (purchase at any drug store-THEY WORK!) I woke up & made some sandwich's, grabbed snacks & water (which saved us a ton of money & gave us the opportunity to find the perfect picnic spot.) We headed out at 7:00 am to beat the tourist buses (this was the best thing we could've done.) We were able to hit several key spots before they caught up to us. So let's get going!

First stop was just off the highway, a quiet little surfing town, Paia. We stopped, talked to a few locals, there was a nice little swell & my hubby needed to get the insiders scoop. I definitely recommend talking/picking the locals brains for cool spots.

A few miles up we saw cars parked, even though it wasn't on our map, we stopped & did a little hike. There wasn't a waterfall but the view was incredible! (*note: be sure to bring shoes to hike in, trails are wet, muddy & slippery.)

The Mile Markers were a little confusing at first on the lower part of the road. They went up, so we thought we missed some sites, but then realized they started all over again & we were back on track.
Between Mile Marker 19 and 20 is Waikani Falls (Three Bears Falls.) We found ourselves speeding by it & my only shot was from the car. (*Note: Be prepared for quick stops-the falls just appear suddenly as you come around a turn.)

A couple of turns later, we noticed a waterfall deep in a mountain so we pulled over onto the shoulder & walked over to get a better view. Turns out, it was only visible from a certain spot on the road & there were no trails. There was a small rush of water & a cool old shed to take a few shots.

*Note: Be sure to wear comfortable hiking clothes...I was glad I did by the end of the day!

9/11-Where Were You on that Tragic Day?

Most people remember exactly where they were and what they were doing on that tragic morning of 9/11/2001. The day our world changed forever.

I was awakened by a frantic phone call from my friend Debbie, "Lis, turn on your T.V., we're being attacked."

A little groggy, I said, "What are you talking about?"

"A plane crashed into one of the Twin Towers!" she said, "They think it was intentional."

As I turned on my T.V., confident that she was mistaken & it was just a terrible accident, another plane hit the second Tower. I sat there in disbelief, "This is America, this doesn't happen here," this thought running through my mind. I continued to listen while getting ready for a doctor's appointment for my son, Josh. He had a dislocated elbow...skateboarding injury, which happened while vacationing in Utah & needed to be checked once we got back home. I ran back into the bedroom as the announcer's said in horror & disbelief, "People are jumping." Then the Tower's crumbled. I drove to the appointment in a daze. Wondering what was happening...it was unbelievable. We reached the appointment, the staff was watching it all unfold on a small portable T.V. I stood by them & watched. There were no words to describe how everyone was feeling...just silence.

Looking back, 10 years later, the memory brings to mind not only shock, disbelief, horror, & sorrow for all those who lost their lives, but also the memory of the Love, Unity, Strength & Compassion from the people of the United States. We drew closer, as ONE NATION UNDER GOD, reaching out & giving to strangers as if they were family. It pulled us together, showing us that Love truly conquers ALL.

The devastation and lives lost will always be remembered. The incredible acts of bravery, giving, sharing and sacrificing for others in need will also remain etched in my mind, as the day our Great Nation overcame the unthinkable and grew stronger through Love!

Our Hawaiian 'Budget' Vacation (Part 1)

Taking a trip to Hawaii while on a budget can be challenging...but I found the deals! This trip was everything I could've hoped for and more. I'm going to let you in on my secret spots, deals, and tips to make the most of a vacation in this tough economy.

First off, I found a 'package deal' 1 week before our planned arrival date. We booked our's through Orbitz.com (flight, condo & car, for an entire week, all for $920.00 per person!) Our seats weren't initially together for the flight over, but I went up to the ticket counter & was able to get the 'Exit Row' (extra leg room) at no extra charge & together.

Our condo was gorgeous (Aston Papakea, in Maui.) They don't upgrade rooms, but when I requested a room away from elevators/stairs...to accomodate my request, we were given a garden/ocean view, 1 bedroom condo, instead of the original studio, garden view only room, ( can you say, UPGRADE?)

We received a small, economy car, which was perfect due to the high prices of gas and our desire to site see the entire island.

The next morning we headed out to Costco to stock up on breakfast, lunch & dinner items. Deciding to only eat out one day on the trip. This saved us a TON of money! I packed lunch for us everyday & we were able to have picnics at isolated, gorgeous spots, away from the crowds. When we got back to the condo, the home cooked dinners out on our patio was a perfect, relaxing, end to our days.

My hubby wanted to surf while we were there, but after checking around, most people wanted $100.00 with a $100.00 deposit to rent a board. After walking all over Lahaina (even an old house we'd rented from 7yrs. ago) we became a little frustrated at the prices. Then my hubby remembered a friend of his back home used to live on Maui. He gave him a quick call.

He sent us over to Augie & Stephanie's house, (local artists-who sell art out of their home in Lahaina.)-awesome people! They gave us a board for free to use during the week. (This board deal may be difficult to work out, but before you head over to the islands, ask friends of friends who might know someone who lives there...you never know until you ask, right?)

I'm in Maui, Hawaii! I thought I'd be posting everyday, but I haven't had any time!

We got here last Tuesday...hmmm where to begin?

We've driven the road to Hana (absolutely incredible.) Taken the "off limits" road to circle the island (not the smartest thing, but I thought they were just trying to keep tourists away & I was afraid I'd miss something good!) It turned out to be the "ugly" desert, desolate side of the island. With a bumpy old single lane dirt road for MILES, oh well...

We came to Maui to watch my son's football game-which they won 48-10! Elijah played an awesome game at Linebacker. He didn't get as much offense as normal (running back,) but that will come later I'm sure.

Today we went to a Maui church, which was just like the one in the movie Soul Surfer. Loved how it wasn't enclosed. Then we just hung out and body surfed, putted on the golf course in front of our condo & had a relaxing day.

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to paddle board...looks like fun, we'll see how easy it is! Wish I hadn't watched Shark Week before I came here!:(

BABY ARIELLA UPDATE: It's Official

Baby Ari will officially be going home on Thursday, August 25th....the PERFECT place for her to wake up! Thanks to all the AMAZING Prayer Warriors from around the world! God has heard and answered!

Almost Time

I'm making my last minute check-lists before we head off to Hawaii tomorrow.

I never realized that having a dog and someone staying at your house to watch her, is like leaving your kid. There are so many instructions, as to Allie's daily needs (food, walking, habits...)

I had to laugh when I was petting her this morning and felt guilty for leaving her!

she wont be smiling once she realizes we're leaving her.

I'm also packing and then unpacking, as I try to fit 1 weeks worth of clothes into a carry on suitcase (I refuse to pay the fee.) However, this presents a huge problem for me...I want to take so many 'just in case' items that I don't know how I'm going to pull it off. Wish me luck!

*This was my very first post from my BlackBerry. I finally figured it out so now I can post while in Hawaii. My pictures are going to be via my phone (aka not very good) until I get back and can post from my camera.

Maui, Hawaii...Here I Come! Suggestions PLEASE?

The last time I went to Hawaii (Maui) was about 7 years ago when my son, Jullien's, 8th grade, undefeated Pop Warner Football team beat the crap out of the Hawaiian team (actually felt bad for the other team-it was a slaughter!) We spent most of the time surfing (well my hubby & Jullien did-I took photo's.)

Now, we get to watch my youngest son, Elijah's, High School team play their season opener...a total GIFT & BLESSING-read how it happened (HERE).

This trip, I want to see everything! I felt like I missed so much site seeing. I wanted to drive the Road to Hana, but I get so severely car sick & heard it was a ridiculously windy road, so I chose not to...but regretted it ever since. Now, armed with my trusty 'Wrist Bands with a Pressure Point Ball' to alleviate the sickness, I'm compiling a list of MUST SEE places/hikes/things to do. This is where all my wonderful bloggy friends come in (YES...THAT'S YOU!) Please leave any suggestions of places you've been to & loved in Maui. We'll be there for a week. THANKS & remember the more info/idea's the better, I'm an adventure girl & love exploring.

Kelly Slater Wins Nike US Open of Surfing!

Before hundreds of thousands of spectators, I was able to maneuver a front row spot on the pier and snap a few pictures during Saturday's "Expression Session" featuring all the big names of surfing, Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Sunny Garcia and Taj Burrow. Let's just say they did not disappoint!

The legendary, 10x ASP World Champion, Kelly Slater, who hasn't won the US Open in Huntington Beach, California since 1996, took home the $100,000.00 First Place prize. He made it to the finals by scoring a 9.77, on an incredible, giant Hail Mary backside 'no grab' air reverse. Then in the finals, Kelly scored an 8.5 to start off the round. This put Yadin Nicol, chasing a perfect wave to compete. Unfortunately...it never came and Slater seemed to be in the competition all alone. On a final wave, before the buzzer, Slater had position but gave it up to Nicol to at least give him a chance.

Today, in the early morning hours, a nurse made a "mistake" which actually turned out to be an answer to the very thing we've been hoping & praying for. AND just in time...she was due to have a trach put in on Friday.

Happy 23rd Birthday Joshy!

23 years ago (August 1, 1988), I gave birth to a HUGE (almost 9 lb) baby boy. He came out looking like he was 5 months old. A full head of black hair & he raised his head out of the hospital bed to look at everyone with his huge brown eyes.

Picture on the left (9 months pregnant)-I carried him like a fake beach ball in my stomach, which is why we were all so surprised he was so HUGE!

I feel so blessed to have such a wonderful son! He was always the All-Star in whatever sport he played, always the fastest guy on the team. He never had to put forth much effort, it just came natural. Which probably spoiled him a little bit. But it always made me so proud when everyone would say, "Wow...who is that kid, he's so fast?"

Which I'd quickly reply, "That's my son!"

In high school, his friends would call him to do things on the weekend, but he was content to just hang out at home most of the time. Which always surprised my hubby...but I was glad! I loved never having to worry about him.

Now that he's 23...I'm grateful I still get to spend time with him. We take family surf day trips & today we celebrated his birthday by going miniature golfing & go-cart racing.

I don't know how 23 years have gone by already, but I cherish every memory as if it was yesterday!

Can I Ever Stop?

I was needing a little adventure last night, so I pushed, bugged, and relentlessly persuaded, or should I say, dragged my tired hubby, out on a dog walk to "Dog Beach." I had to promise not to bring my camera, which annoys him because I'm always stopping whenever something interesting catches my eye.

It was a beautiful, crisp, clear night. We made it all the way to the cliffs, running to make it past the opening, to the next strand of beach nestled back between the rocks, before I was overwhelmed with the urge. Then I stood there, looking, watching the setting sun over the ocean, missing something...a way to capture the moment. My memory is no longer enough...I NEED MY CAMERA! I need to share it with my friends all over the blogging world.

Then it hit me...I HAVE MY CAMERA PHONE! I whipped it out & began snapping away, only to find out I was out of memory. I quickly scanned through old pictures & deleted. Awwwwe, relief...I was able to snap a few.

As my hubby yelled, "C'mon...we're gonna get stuck in here, the tides rising fast." We were off & running. After making it back to the stretch of sand, I continued to shoot. I think my hubby just knows I'm a hopeless cause when it comes to pictures.

The sun slowly began to set beyond the horizon as I told him, "Right as it disappears, you have to kiss me & then we both make a wish." Perfect evening~hoping my wish comes true!

The REAL World's Kickin My Butt!

I'm exhausted! My boss's friend needed help at her office last week and all of next week. After my recent $800.00 car repair bill, I needed the extra money so I said I'd do it. But with my insomnia & working a FULL day between the two jobs, I'm WIPED OUT! I got home from work & took a 3 hour nap until 8:00 pm & then couldn't sleep all night.

I'll admit it...I'm spoiled, with my normal 6 hour work days & Monday's off. I have a whole new appreciation for my schedule!

Being a single mother for years, I worked full time and never thought anything of it...just did what I had to do. But now that I'm doing it again, "I yigh yigh!"

Funny how we take our life, situation, health, family, etc. for granted until it's taken away. My new motto,
"BE THANKFUL!"

Baby Ariella drowned on June 29, 2011. The Doctor's gave her less than 24 hrs to live. She continues to fight and has proven to be a miracle. While she is still fighting to wake up, her parents ask only for prayers on her behalf.

This family shows remarkable faith in their hope of a miracle for Ari's complete recovery. Mom, Megan, spends almost all her time at the hospital watching over Ari, encouraging her to wake up. Dad, Nathan, after taking 2 weeks off was forced to go back to work to provide for their family of 6. Ari has 3 siblings: Jacob-7, Madison-4, who has cerebral palsy, and Tripp-2. We've been so inspired by the abundance of love and prayers on behalf of Ari and her family.

This sweet family would never think to ask for help, however we can all imagine what a financial burden this situation would be. Our goal is to put a small dent in medical bills/ living expenses created from this situation. We are asking for a donation to help Ari and her family, even small amounts add up!
