Jullien Herrera-CHAOS Magazine Video

When I sent my son off to New York the day after he graduated high school at 17, I thought it'd be a fun and exciting life experience. He's traveled the world, Paris, France, Italy, Germany, Spain and London, to name a few. He's been in major Fashion Shows, shot with the world's top photographers, appeared in hundreds of magazines and also several videos. It's been a whirlwind with ups and downs that go along with any career. But I'm so glad he's been able to see and do so many things that I never have.

The one thing I didn't expect when I put him on that plane was that he'd LIVE there for years (4+ years and counting.) I guess I assumed it'd be for a couple of years, then he'd come back home and head into another career. But he's made a life for himself over there. He's now studying to get his real estate license and eventually go into commercial real estate along with his modeling (men are able to continue finding modeling work well into their 30's, unlike most women.)

Here's some new magazine pics:

Here's his latest video preview for an upcoming CHAOS MAGAZINE issue:

So it looks like my son will be staying. It's hard to be so far away (Southern California) and only see him once or twice a year. But I know as parents our greatest hope is to see our kids succeed and more importantly to be happy in their profession. I'm proud of him, but as a mother, my heart misses him so much.

Take-down at the Tony Bennett Concert

For Mother's Day, we all got dressed up and took my hubby's mom to see a Tony Bennett concert (I even wore a dress!) This was going to be one of those very laid back, mellow nights...or so we thought. As we entered the building, there was a line a mile long for all the older people who were waiting for the elevator because they couldn't walk up the stairs.

We were definitely the "young" people in the crowd. My hubby waited with his parents for the elevator (his dad is older & has a bad knee.) I headed upstairs with my sister-in-law's. We were hanging out by the elevator, knowing that it was going to be a while. All of a sudden the elevator doors open & there's loud screaming. Startled, we looked over to see two elderly men in their 80's pushing, shoving & yelling. I immediately headed towards the action, thinking (or not thinking~obviously) that I would break it up before it got worse...in my dress and all!

All of a sudden, an elderly lady gets knocked out of the elevator, and rolls across the floor, legs flailing in her dress. My immediate instinct was to get to her first before the two struggling men & people trying to get out of the elevator trampled her.

By this time the fighting had taken a whole new level. One man bashed the other man's head up against the wall and did a complete take-down move, ending up on top of him. Several younger (our age...) men rushed over trying to break it up. One of them ended up getting hit in the face.

As I leaned down to help the elderly lady, she was screaming, "He elbowed me in the chest! I want him arrested!" (Turns out her husband was the one who took the other guy down for hitting his wife in the elevator.) I was able to help her up as she kept pointing and yelling at the man, who by now had gotten up after people had separated the two men.

The man who elbowed the lady walked towards us with his wife, who I'll refer to as "Pat Benatar" (because she wore a big thick black & white headband on her forehead.)

She was bleeding out of a cut just below her eyebrow (they were kind of a quirky, weird couple.) I walked over to them (just a few steps from the elbowed lady) and told him he should apologize to the lady because he hit her in the chest & it was probably just an accident because it was so crowded in the elevator (I just wanted to fix the whole CRAZY situation.) He just stood there staring blankly at me (the lights are on but nobody's home look) which I've seen before when my son, Jullien got knocked out in a football game. I'm sure when his head hit the wall before the take-down and he probably had a concussion. Pat Benatar looked and me & said, "What about him!!" Pointing to the man who was still being held back away from her husband. The elbowed lady started up again with, "CALL THE POLICE! I want him arrested." Next thing I know, Pat Benatar & her husband quickly disappeared into the auditorium.

And can you believe...I was so busy trying to help that I missed the opportunity to get the whole thing on video! I'm sure it would've been a You Tube sensation. Seriously, when can you say you've seen two elderly men in their 80's doing a take-down move dressed in suits. At a Tony Bennett concert no less!

*Oh, and I have to say...Tony Bennett still sings great!;)

Family Leaving & Arriving

LEAVING: This morning I had to take my son Jullien, to the airport at 5:00 a.m. He was supposed to be back in New York last week to go on several castings for New York Fashion Week, but wanted to take care of some things before he left.

So his awesome agent, George Brown at Red Model Management~Click Here & also see Models.Com~Click Here is cramming in tons of castings in the short amount of time leading up to the shows. He had to go to two of them right from the airport...lugging his bags and all.

I've really enjoyed getting to have him home for so long. It made it hard to say goodbye again...but he is so fortunate to be able to travel & see the world at the age of 18.

ARRIVING: My parents arrived yesterday from Utah. I'm so thankful for everyone's prayers for my dad. He is doing incredibly well since his 4th stage, inoperable lung cancer diagnosis a year ago. Check out his "Father of the Year Video on You Tube" CLICK HERE. He continues to work full time at the police dept. as a captain & also works a side job.

I really feel that the prayers and his incredibly positive attitude have stabilized the cancer. It has stopped growing & is completely at a stand still. What a blessing!

My dad and hubby played golf today, while I worked until 1:00 p.m.

I'm fortunate to be an independent contractor and have a flexible schedule.

After I got off, I headed out to Glendora, the small little town I grew up in, where my sister still lives, to hang out with my mom & sister.

We headed back down to Newport Beach to meet up with everyone & eat at my dad's favorite restaurant...The Crab Cooker. We piled nine of us into my Lincoln Navigator, (nothing quite like family togetherness), and had so much fun.

Gotta love all the old family memories!

There's absolutely nothing better than spending time with the people you love the most!

New York Fashion Week Update

New York Fashion week is in full swing. Jullien has walked in three shows so far and has two more next week. He still has other castings for next weeks shows. He had two of his shows today and even closed one of them! WOOHOO! I'm hoping they'll put some up on You Tube. He said that it's funny because it's about five hours of preparation and 3 minutes of walking.

The night before the shows began, they had several parties. Here's a picture of Jullien with his friends (RED MODELS also and soon to be his roommates when he moves to NY in December) at Lord and Taylor "Fashion's Night Out" party (CLICK LINK).

Henry Watkins, Beth Melillo, Jullien Herrera, Andrew Ruffin

Look at what a good boy he is...everyone else is drinking wine and since he is only 17, he has a water bottle, (mom's always notice these things!) Just assuming it's water of course...LOL!

Wish I was there!

Super Cop Kodak Father of the Year

My sister entered a contest to nominate my dad, Dave Bolda for "Kodak Father of the Year". He was voted as a top ten finalist, they sent her a Kodak video camera to tape some footage. They will soon pick a final winner...CLICK HERE to see the video of my dad sharing his life moments, while battling 4th stage lung cancer.

We figured the more views, the more likely he'll be chosen. So thanks for taking a moment to watch...he could win a trip if chosen!

Jullien Modeling Calvin Klein

Tomorrow concludes Jullien's whirlwind New York trip since signing with top modeling agency Red Model Management. He had a great time...several very important "go sees" (Steven Klein, Calvin Klein and Abercrombie & Fitch) to name a few.

Check out his CALVIN KLEIN SPECIAL pictures by Bell Soto with casting and styling by John Tan. It's very weird to see my son in high fashion!! Here's his You Tube (kind of new to the whole thing...see!) or here on Homme Star.
