Happy Birthday Anthony

I want to wish my husband a Happy Birthday! He is 44 today and we had a big celebration for him~a beach/bonfire. It was the perfect day!

Every year I try to make the day really special...I think I've created a spoiled husband! From the time the birthday boy wakes up, we have to spend an entire day doing everything we can to make him happy. That includes the kids. They are not allowed to argue or disagree with him. This is a task in itself (you know how teenagers are).

I bought him a bunch of Hurley and Billabong shorts. Then I bid on some golf clubs on E-Bay. Two days after he received them, he found some Callaway golf clubs at Play It Again Sports that he HAD to have. These are top of the line clubs. So I bought them too, (we'll sell the other ones) see it has to be a very special day, even to the point of getting two separate set of golf clubs to see which ones he like better!LOL!

The whole day was a success! Happy Birthday Honey...I love you.

I Held My Temper~Progress!

Slowly pulling into my town home complex, I carefully watched for all the little kids playing out front. During the summer they seem to pop out suddenly from behind a parked car with laser swords, baseball bats and gloves, bikes or squirt guns...chasing each other.

As I rounded the corner there was a silver car parked directly in front of my driveway on the wrong side of the rode. The heavy set lady, with her severe blonde bob haircut and floral dress had stopped at the mailbox. I've seen her quite frequently, but she usually is parked in front of the mailbox. She NEVER cracks a smile, just seems to glare at me. I know I should at least make an attempt to say, "Hi," or wave, but the dirty looks she gives me makes me want to smack her (I kid, I kid!) It does make me a little angry, "What's her problem?"

Now, I patiently pull my car to the far right waiting to make a left into my driveway once she moves. She turns her head towards me, squints her eyes, stares at me (I know that she knows I'm waiting for her to move), and continues to stay at the mailbox shuffling through her mail.

I'm so tempted to honk and say something...but I patiently wait. Finally she SLOWLY walks over to her car...looks directly at me and scouls. Nothing...not a "Sorry," not a wave signaling, "Oops, I'm moving...NOTHING but a crusty look! I'm now ready to roll down my window, but I don't (YES, progress with my temper!) Maybe I should say, progress with my "outward" temper, but inside I was seething. It's a hard thing for someone like me, a.k.a. "The Mouth" to keep it shut.

Now she finally gets into her car, wait...wait...wait, yep she proceeds to sit there sifting through her mail. Here's my self conversation, "Now it's on! No, control yourself...don't let her get you worked up and start a huge yelling match...okay Lisa be the bigger person."

I pull up and slightly turn the front of my car towards my driveway, causing her to look up again. I just point at my driveway...not smiling, but not yelling at her either (PROGRESS). She gives me another disgusted look and points forward, as if to say, "Don't you dare try and squeeze your car in front of me because I'm going straight!" Finally she moves!

Wow...that was a HUGE accomplishment for me! I'm proud of myself...BUT my "normal" confrontational temper still has me a little bottled up. I had so many things ready to come gushing out..."the mouth" usually has a mind of it's own and after I'm done giving someone a thrashing I think, "Oh no...that was REALLY mean, I took it too far again!" So I can truly say P R O G R E S S...YAY!

Prayer Requests

Okay, so here's the thing...every week I put together a prayer request and send it out to everyone to pray for each other (e-mail addresses are kept hidden via BCC). I can't tell you how many people are in need of prayer right now! So I decided to open it up to EVERYONE. Prayer is POWERFUL...no matter how small or large the need, let others pray for you.

Please leave me a message and I will send it out.

A Piece of Cake
Author Uknown

A little boy is telling his grandma how everything is going wrong.....school, family problems, severe health problems, etc. Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which, of course, he does.
"Here, have some cooking oil."
"Yuck" says the boy.

"How about a couple raw eggs?"
"Gross, Grandma!"

"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"
"Grandma, those are all yucky!"

"Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves, but when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake!

God works the same way. Many times we wonder why he would let us go through such bad and difficult times, but God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good!

We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!" God is crazy about you. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.

Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen. He can live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart. I hope your day is a piece of cake!

"I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."

Celebrate, Reflect and Enjoy-4th of July

My family was all in Utah together for the 4th (we couldn't afford to go), but made the best of it here. It's always hard for us because it's the anniversary of my brother John's death. I usually start to get a little edgy and emotional the week leading up to the 4th. I try to make sure we have lots of plans, the busier I am the easier it is.

I decided to treat myself to a new bike this year...last year we were the Beverly Hillbilly's of OC with our crappy, squeaky, rusty bikes. I haven't had a brand new bike since I was 14 years old! I figured it was time...also I thought it would encourage me to get out and exercise more. I was going to get my usual boys beach cruiser in black, I'm such a tomboy that I don't usually like flashy. But I decided at the last minute to get a shiny purple and silver girl bike. What do ya think?

We rode down to the parade, stopped by to meet some friend's at a house party, but it was all adults and the little guys wanted to hang out with us for a while (we wont have very many years left of them wanting to be with the "parents" since they're 14 & 15. So we told them we'd be back later and rode around with the kids.

Anthony's sister's and all their kids ended up coming down and we met up with them, got some lunch and had a picnic at the park with them and some other friends who met up with us. The boys ended up leaving and me and Anthony headed home for a quick rest before we had to ride back down for the fireworks show.

I had to leave and go pick up Josh from work. I was sitting in the LONG line of cars waiting to turn, when a group of bikers came riding in between all the cars and some parked cars. Some girls were obviously drunk...one girl turned around to talk to her friends and ran smack into the back of a parked car and flipped over the top of her bike, denting the car. Okay now you are all going to know how mean I am...I LAUGHED so hard. I always do when someone trips or falls. I can't help it! I wasn't alone, all the other cars were yelling, honking and laughing too! I didn't feel as bad. She was okay, but she did a bike hit and run. The owner of the car came running out of the house party, but the girl was long gone. I'll take entertainment anyway I can get it.

When we got back down to the beach it was FREEZING. The little guys never came home and had only swim trunks and tank shirts. They were shivering and complaining...we brought them some jackets and I got these pics of them racing toward the backpack and then fighting with a friend for the warmest one.

Elijah, Adam & Friend racing to the backpack for sweatshirts.

The Boys fighting over the warmest sweatshirt.

Even Anthony was cold.

Crowd in the ampitheatre.

Crowds watching street performers.

More Crowds in the dreaded Out House line.

My hubby & me trying to stay warm.

Waiting for the fireworks to start.

YAY...FINALLY!

All in all it was a good day and I didn't even cry once...which was a first. We love and miss you John!

Shorts, Dresses and Board Shorts YES!

It's getting to be that time of year, the sun is now shining it's been slowly warming up and my family is wanting to hit the beach. This now officially puts me in PANIC mode. Another year of swearing that I will work out early and be "beach ready" is shot. I have not worked out at all. I usually at least try to work out at home a little bit to get rid of the jiggle. Nope not even that!

So as the Fourth of July approaches, I get to try and find something that hides my body for our annual bike ride and beach trip. I've been a little excited that those really long dresses with sandals are popular this year. But that wont do for our bike ride. I guess I'll need to find some extra long shorts to hide the "special" areas.

Here's a few options for you ladies who may have run into the same procrastination problem that I have.

See it's all in how you camouflage the areas...so if your panicking too, head out and pick your self up a few of these "MUST HAVE" items!

Back On My Feet

I was finally able to go back to work today...I guess that's a good thing?! You don't realize how sick of being sick I am! I hope this is my last one for a long time. Elijah was able to go to football practice too.

Now that I'm up its back to the crazy summer schedules. I just got back from picking Elijah up from practice (with his bike), and then went and picked up Josh from work (with his bike), it was pretty tricky trying to squeeze two beach cruiser's in the back of my car. After a few minutes of yelling at the boys to BE CAREFUL...didn't want the spokes broken or my car scratched up, it was off to pick up some food.

I called ahead to order the Pizza Hut Meaty Marinara Pasta (love it!), and when I got there it was supposed to be ready. Of course they couldn't find my order so we sat there for 25 min. I don't know what is going on lately but every time I go to a fast food place lately I end up having to wait FOREVER...guess my patience is being tested and I'm not passing.

Finally get home, ready to relax...nope, my ENTIRE house wreaks of ammonia (DOG PEE!) I swear it was so strong it burned my nose hair! Back out to the store to get carpet cleaner, powder, air freshener...and it still smells.

HAPPY MONDAY TO ME! Hope yours was better.

Father's Day, Nurse Maid and Things, Oh My!

I want to wish both my dad's a very HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! With both of them living in two separate states we never get to spend it together, however this year with the graduation so close to Father's Day we were able to have a big family dinner last week at The Crab Cooker in Newport Beach.

I wish we were all closer...I'm sometimes envious of other people's family's as I see all the other grandparents attending their grand kids sporting events. But it was definitely nice to all be together again for a little while!

I'm so grateful for my husband and want him to know how much I love and appreciate him! He has raised my boys as his own, coaching, teaching, loving and supporting them. Never missing an important event...even the dreaded track meets that he hates!LOL!

He has been the only father in their lives and a WONDERFUL example! I love you honey!!

Last night Elijah was up all night with a really high fever. You know what that means...I was up all night taking care of him. I didn't feel comfortable leaving him alone today because he's been pretty out of it, not to mention two spinal taps in two weeks which is giving him severe headaches from the lack of fluid that they took out. So Anthony had to go to his dad's house with just his kids.

Hopefully Lijey gets better quick...his first high school football practice starts tomorrow and he's been looking forward to it. It's always a battle to earn a starting spot on our high schools top ranked football team. His health is #1 though.

I hope everyone had a GREAT day!!

Another Trip to ER Today

Against my better judgment I let Elijah stay the night at a his good friends house after an 8th grade graduation party. I got a call to pick him up this morning because he had a headache, fever & sore, stiff neck and back! Same symptoms that he had with his Meningitis.

Here's the thing...because of the mystery bacteria (Dr.'s not sure exactly which type to treat him for) they told me that if he has the same symptoms to get him back in immediately and they will re-treat him for a different type of bacterial meningitis.

Well, I of course I immediately started to cry, feeling like, "I can't go through this stress again." But wiped the tears and went in to comfort Elijah who was crying too. And no, I didn't let him know that I was upset.

We immediately went to the hospital again...they did a CT Scan, X-Ray, blood work, and the dreaded Spinal Tap AGAIN! Poor kid!! Well, 5 hours later we received the good news, it's just a viral infection, NOT MENINGITIS AGAIN! Praise the Lord!

I thought today was supposed to be a relaxing day for me??????
