We lost our football game against Los Alamitos 21-26, but it was so cool to see the kids on t.v. Elijah ran a 50 yd. kickoff return to start the third quarter & had several other great runs...I was really proud of him. The announcer even praised him for being a smart player when he tucked the ball in instead of trying to reach it out farther to get the touchdown & risking a turnover.

I wish I could take the game I recorded (DVR), & put it on a DVD to send to the family! Do any of you know if it's possible?

Two weeks ago we went to the school to decorate for our big "Battle of the Bell" game against our rivals Fountain Valley. We had to be there at 2:00 a.m. & every inch of the school got postered. Here's some shots...it was still dark out so I couldn't get the far away pic.

How's that for decorating a school!

So next week we head into playoffs as the second seeded team.

I'm actually done with my pictures for the year (I take for JV). This should free up a little time, BUT I still have 3 games to edit & send out. I fell WAY behind!

We're on T.V.-Edison vs. Los Alamitos

Tomorrow night, Thursday, November 11, 2010 @ 7:30 p.m. our team, Edison High School (white/green & gold) will be playing Los Alamitos. This game is a BIG one! The winner will be the Sunset League Champions & also get a 1st seed heading into playoffs. For everyone interested in watching it will be on FSN Primeticket...tune in!

My son, Elijah Herrera (#26) a sophomore, was recently thrust into the position of running back. He played this position his whole life, however once he entered H.S. switched over to wide receiver. After playing mostly JV linebacker & a little bit of wide receiver, they put him in to run the ball when we were killing Marina & realized they had a diamond in the rough. The next JV game against Huntington Beach High, he played the whole game at running back & was incredible.

So there you have it, the following game they called him up to Varsity. He rotated in a few plays, got some yards & was just happy to get the opportunity after being mostly a JV defensive player. Then we had our HUGE rival game against Fountain Valley (aka "The Battle for the Bell"). He started in that game, gained 72 yards rushing on 12 carries & scored his very first Varsity touchdown. It's been an amazing season for a kid who played 2 games at JV running back & then gets the opportunity to be on varsity!

It will definitely be a tough game for us, and yes we are going in as underdogs (we're ranked 9th & they're ranked 6th), but Coach White & his Chargers have been in this situation before, don't count Edison out. With Dave White's coaching experience and several talented players, which include the highly recruited, defensive end, Charles Burks (USC commit) & junior, Chase Favreau, a double threat at quarterback, and Troy Baljeu (wide receiver), on the field, Edison has all the tools to pull off the upset. There is also bigger implications in the whole playoff scheme of things.

For those of you who don't know, a 1st seed position sets you up to go farther in playoffs by pairing your first game up with an easier opponent. The loser of this game will then take a 2nd seed position, matching them up with the likes of Servite or Mater Dei in the 1st round=tougher road to the top.

It's Time To Get Away Again

When life gets a little stressful, sometimes you need to escape. Revisiting favorite vacation spot photos can be just the little refresher you need.

The Shots

As most of you know from my previous post, I had my first paid photo job taking shots of buildings for a Property Mgmt. Co. in Irvine. They wanted to get the boss/owner of the company a nice Christmas gift & decided to have pictures blown up on canvas. I usually take sports action or beach landscape pictures so this was something new and completely different.

I was lucky enough to have scheduled my shoot the day after a rainstorm. The white puffy clouds as a backdrop gave the pictures a painting feel to it.

I was very happy with the results & so were they.

Yesterday we took a quick trip to Knott's Berry Farm Amusement Park. I don't particularly care for this one because most of the rides have loops & spins = HUGE motion sickness for me. Disneyland is always more fun, but my sister-in-laws boyfriend treated us.

How can you say no to a free trip right?

We had a great time even though we went on only two rides. We hung out w/ my hubby's family, walked around, ate & had a fun day.

As we were walking to the car, I couldn't help but notice the view & took some shots w/my camera phone (not too bad considering I didn't have my real camera). I told my husband that I see things as pictures now whenever we go some place...it's weird.

Follow a Cloud?

I think I should change the title of my Blog to "The Random Blog." I know there is no rhyme or reason to it & it can't be categorized. Some days it's about sports, other days fashion, dances, pain, encouragement, scary situations & simple moments.

But that 's me, that's who I am...that's my life, that's my daily moments, interests & thoughts. I can't be put into a category, a box or one simple subject. Life is never one dimensional...

So today I'll share a moment.

Last week on the way to take pictures of the JV Football game, I was late, rushed & trying to get there before the opening kick off (yes, classic me!)

While stopped at a light, I noticed a single cloud shooting across the clear blue sky. At first it looked like something a jet would leave trailing behind, but it went on forever...I couldn't see the beginning or end & it was a little thicker. As I turned & headed up the hill, I continued to try to see where it ended. My curiosity got the best of me, late or not, I needed to see what was up with this forever cloud. Driving up to a park, I pulled in the driveway, stopped my car & got out with my camera. I only had my large lens so I took pictures of the cloud in pieces.

I walked through the park to an opening & just stood there. The cloud stopped directly over the bay...as if it was an arrow, directing me, pointing the way to a beautiful view. I stood there in the peace & quiet and took in the moment, snapped a shot capturing the scene & then headed off to the game feeling refreshed and less stressed.

I wonder how many other people were being directed by the arrow cloud to slow down, stop rushing through life and look at the beauty around you.

Just a little reminder to each one of you too...turn off the auto pilot & follow a cloud sometimes, you never know what you'll find.

Pierre Cardin 60th Anniversary Show-New York

Pierre Cardin, the legend, the icon, the man whose name appears on everything from clothing to watches, makeup, luggage & cologne, recently celebrated 60 years as a designer.

At 88 years old he is still going strong, and held a 60th Anniversary show in New York at Milk Studios. While sticking to his signature futuristic styles, he also included ready to wear clothing.

My son, Jullien Herrera (Red Models) wore several looks, ranging from something straight out of a Star Trek movie, to a classic suit.

I can't imagine still being so creative at 88 years of age...now that's inspiring!

Where Have the Days Gone

I can't believe my last post was on the 27th...yikes. i'm really slacking. To say that I've been a little overwhelmed lately would be an understatement. Hmmm let's see, where do I start? On Thursday my son didn't play in the JV football game (he was playing in the varsity game on Friday-woo hoo!), but I made a commitment to take pictures for the team so I still went. Friday my son got to run the ball a couple of times in the Varsity game, we were hoping for a little more, but it was a tight game, 7-0 & he's only a sophomore (can't be greedy right?!) We won!

Saturday I had a photo shoot for a property management co. who wanted pictures of their buildings/landscape (10 of them). I headed out early, but was only able to complete 5 of them & I was exhausted (had to walk these huge buildings, working the angles & trying to get the best possible shots). The pictures came out great, it had just finished raining & there was huge puffy white clouds with crisp clear blue sky as the backdrop.

Sunday our friend's son had a football championship game, stopped by there for a little while then headed to the high school to make signs, candy bags, posters etc for the kids (BIG rival football game this week. it's a tradition.) Straight from there I headed off for my second group of building shots...NOT happy with the results because I got such a late start. The sun was in the complete worst spot~probably have to redo them, uggggh (4 hrs wasted)!

Today I have to get the pictures from 2 weeks worth of games out & the first set of buildings cropped & edited.

I'm feeling a little bogged down, but I know I'll get through it all...breathe!
