PRINCE CONCERT-Yes Finally!

yes, this is me screaming on our way...so excited!

Since I was in high school, I've been crazy for Prince (The Symbol, The Artist) or whatever you want to call him. Unfortunately I was never able to see him live in concert (but I did hang out w/ him at an LA night club, Bar One, in the 90's. I was dancing & he was sitting in a dark, private booth. He sent someone out to the dance floor to invite me & my friend to come sit w/ him...but he never said a word! Just kind of smirked and nodded his head when we tried to play it cool, and said "Hey Prince."LOL. After a while, we got tired of sitting & waiting for him to talk to us & said, "Thanks...we're going to dance.")

Oh back to my story, my dad was a policeman and VERY STRICT! All my friends were going but I wasn't allowed to. To say I was angry, is putting it mildly, especially as I stood by watching my friends get all dressed up in their best Prince, impersonation attire. Complete with tight black pants, ruffled low cut tops, or bustier (for that Wendy & Lisa look) tall high boots, thick heavy makeup, a long dangling earring and of course...the BIG 80's hair!

not sure if this is Wendy or Lisa? But it gives you an idea of the 80's look.

and the 80's Prince

Oh I was fuming! But I wasn't much of one to dis-obey...so I stayed home.

When I recently heard Prince was in town, I gave a subtle hint to my oldest son Josh & his gf Charmaine as they were sitting on the couch, "NO WAY, Prince is playing at the Forum tonight...that would be a PERFECT Mother's Day Present! You know how long I've loved Prince, I mean, I've made you listen to every one of his songs since you were little, AND I've NEVER been to his concert."

Yes, I'm very subtle, don't ya think?

So later that day, he came and handed me some money, "Get yourself a Prince ticket mom, Happy Mother's Day!" .............YAY!!!!!!!

I scrambled to get a ticket on TicketMaster & then informed my hubby 2 hrs. before showtime & Adam's Prom, "WE'RE GOING TO SEE PRINCE TONIGHT...WHOO HOO!!!" We got together our best, ~we can still look cool at a Prince concert-over 40 outfits on~

ya my hubby playing his air guitar (aka-my leg!)

Then rushed over to take prom pictures of Adam & his gf Carla & headed to LA.

It was absolutely everything I could have hoped for and more. HE WAS INCREDIBLE! He even pulled Gwen Stefani up onto the stage to sing & dance. AND Sheila E. was RIDICULOUS on the drums! We were on our feet the entire show, dancing, singing along, cheering...he is amazing. It was definitely worth the wait. I would go to every single show he had here in LA if I had the money (he promises a new show every night.)

the guy doesn't age at all!

If you get the chance be sure to check out a Prince concert in your area...you wont be disappointed! THANK YOU JOSHY!

I Was Rescued

Most of us take technology for granted. I can remember when there were no computers/cell phones/I Pads/I Pods. I know that makes me sound ancient, but just think about it...it was only back in the 80's.

We used to spend our time playing family games, (Trouble, Operation, Candy Land-my personal fav) and actually played outside (Hide-n-Seek, Mother May I, Red Light Green Light, Kick Ball etc.) We even walked to and from school, and would never think of yelling at our parents for being late to pick us up.

AWWWE the good ol' days!

Fast forward to this past Friday. We spent the entire day moving into our new home and scheduled the cable company to be at our new home on Saturday. The clock ticked past the time they were supposed to be here. My hubby called & found out that...surprise...they had messed up our order and accidentally canceled it. After about an hour and several transfers, the best that they could do was re-schedule it for Tuesday.

Now lets count...Saturday (1), Sunday (2), Monday (3) Tuesday (1/2 day). Okay that's three and a half days of living in the stone age...no television, emails, Facebook, Blog, Twitter, Hubpages or phone, just silence.

I went back in time...and I didn't like it one bit!

The good ol' days no longer seemed so good. I felt lost, disconnected from the world. I was sitting in a cave. The earthquake happened here & I couldn't even find out where it was centered, what the magnitude & the damage was. I felt like I was in a third world country, isolated and out of touch.

Okay so I exaggerate a little...but you try turning everything completely off for three and a half days.

You know you couldn't do it.

We are slaves to technology. We no longer enjoy, not knowing what is going on around the world & in our friends & families lives every minute of the day.

Our lives have become a "Real World Reality Show" for the whole world to see.

I'm happy to say that I received a knock at my door on Tuesday afternoon. He was dressed in a tan button down work shirt, navy blue pants, with a heavily loaded tool belt strapped to his waste & carrying a ladder. He had a bold bright red patch on his shirt which read those three magical words............

Time Warner Cable.

The cable guy was my knight in shining armor...coming to rescue me from my cave.

Hello T.V., Emails, Blog, Twitter, Facebook, Hubpages...I've missed you!

Street Dancers Perform?

My husband and I decided to spend a quiet day at the beach on Sunday after church. We walked down Main Street, ate lunch and then headed to the pier and sat down on a bench overlooking the ocean. We were spending some much needed alone time, watching the surfers, talking and just hanging out. A team of street dancers walked up and told everyone who was sitting around to please hang out because they would be performing shortly.

We both love watching any type of dance...but especially street dancing (it takes us back to the 80's, you know OLD SCHOOL). They began their preparation to perform. They stretched, did hand stands to strengthen their arms, several hard balancing moves, more stretches and then put on protective padding.
This continued for about 30 minutes. We could tell that they were very talented as one of them ran up the side of a pole and did a back flip off of it.

The crowd was becoming restless with anticipation. Finally they were ready to perform. A lifeguard pulled up at the exact moment they were going to start and asked them for their permit to perform. They didn't have one...they scrambled around nervously for a while, but...it was over. We all walked away feeling let down. Sitting their waiting through all of their preparation for NOTHING!

Do you think God sometimes feels the same way? He begins to shape and mold us, using the hard times in our life to help us grow. Years and years of preparation. Getting us ready for all the blessings He intends for us. He waits patiently, day by day, trial by trial, as we slowly began to take shape. Finally when we're almost there...we become discouraged and quit. We feel that we don't have a permit to perform the way that God wants us to. We don't feel qualified. We are fearful and forget that he has been stretching us through hard times, strengthening us through his word and supplying us with protective padding through prayer and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Don't stop before you achieve your ultimate purpose! He is waiting with loving anticipation...for us to be stretched enough to be able to display our GIFTS to the world.

"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground." Psalm 143:8, 10
