Edison Beats Villa Park!

Elijah Herrera (OLB) takes down Meki Tafuna-ouch!
OC Varsity interview after the game

I wanted to give you a quick update on last weeks game: Edison vs. Villa Park. It was the first time we'd ever played them. Since our league (Sunset League) has been moved to a new CIF Division this year we got a little preview into the type of teams we'll be seeing in the playoffs.

We won...27-7! Our defense played AMAZING and held Villa Park's top running back, Meki Tafuna to only 64 yards the entire game.

This basically shut down their offense as they are a running team. Our offense is still working on a few kinks but once they get ironed out...we will be unstoppable. It's only a matter of time and we're looking for that timing to fall into place this week against Servite.

Elijah played incredible defense (outside linebacker)...he's been so fired up to have the best Senior season. Most of these boys have been playing together since they were 5 years old so there is such a since of "family" on the team. They never want to let their "brother" down. Each and every boy on the team is giving 100+%. With that kind of determination...they will be unstoppable! A lot of teams have talent, but to have talent in addition to a bond, determination, never quit, never give up, never let your brother down attitude will propel these boys to the best season Edison has ever seen.

Watch this short highlight video from OC Varsity about the game & they interviewed Elijah again. You can tell he was pretty fired up right after the game!

Next up: Edison vs. Servite- Friday, 9/14/12 @ 7:00 pm. LET'S GO CHARGERS!!!  This is your year. Make the best of each and every moment!!

And They Went Down...

Last Thursday our JV team lost (we are 2-1 now). It was as if the offense was asleep the whole game. The defense scored all of the points for our team, except for 2) & we were actually about to pull off the win...the offense only needed to score 1 touchdown, but they couldn't do it! We lost 16-10.

My son had one of his best games ever on defense. I was so proud of him, but I wish it could've ended with a win!

Here's some pics of our win 2 weeks ago against Long Beach Wilson (44-0).

Father's Day, Nurse Maid and Things, Oh My!

I want to wish both my dad's a very HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! With both of them living in two separate states we never get to spend it together, however this year with the graduation so close to Father's Day we were able to have a big family dinner last week at The Crab Cooker in Newport Beach.

I wish we were all closer...I'm sometimes envious of other people's family's as I see all the other grandparents attending their grand kids sporting events. But it was definitely nice to all be together again for a little while!

I'm so grateful for my husband and want him to know how much I love and appreciate him! He has raised my boys as his own, coaching, teaching, loving and supporting them. Never missing an important event...even the dreaded track meets that he hates!LOL!

He has been the only father in their lives and a WONDERFUL example! I love you honey!!

Last night Elijah was up all night with a really high fever. You know what that means...I was up all night taking care of him. I didn't feel comfortable leaving him alone today because he's been pretty out of it, not to mention two spinal taps in two weeks which is giving him severe headaches from the lack of fluid that they took out. So Anthony had to go to his dad's house with just his kids.

Hopefully Lijey gets better quick...his first high school football practice starts tomorrow and he's been looking forward to it. It's always a battle to earn a starting spot on our high schools top ranked football team. His health is #1 though.

I hope everyone had a GREAT day!!

Busy Weekend Ahead

I had to re-post the following pictures that I took to help keep me calm and get me through my VERY busy weekend...

Get off work, pick up kids, drop off, go back pick up more kids, unload chairs, camera, jackets, blankets...whew, now I get to exercise for 1 hr. This is my life since football started, CRAZY! We leave the house at 8:00 a.m. and don't get home till 8:30 p.m. I am WIPED OUT...today I laid down (my husband was taking the kids to practice for me) right after work, and decided to go to practice later. Well, I fell asleep at around 4:00 pm and didn't wake up until 7:45 pm! I missed practice, the dinner night and taking pictures for the team (I volunteered to be the team photographer...more baby steps, and I write the articles about the games to be published in the local newspaper). I feel a little guilty, but I feel really rested!

Friday, Elijah has Pop Warner practice from 5:30 - 8:00, Jullien who plays on the High School Varsity team, has a scrimmage game at 7:00 pm, and I have to find time to make dinner, (we are getting sick of fast food.) Saturday, Jullien has practice from 9-1, then a Luau for a boy (Luke) on his team who was just diagnosed with a rare blood disease and will be going through chemo and getting a bone marrow transplant beginning Tuesday.

The team will be leaving on Monday to play their first game in Hawaii (Maui) and Luke will not be able to go so they are doing a surprise Luau in his honor. It was really sad because he was COMPLETELY healthy and just got a bloody nose that wouldn't stop bleeding. I can't believe how lives can be changed in an instant. It makes you really put things into perspective. The family and Luke have amazing faith and Luke said he hopes to be an inspiration to the team this year. So I will go over at 12 pm to help set up, then Elijah has a scrimmage game at 4:00 pm. After the game we are going to the Harvest Festival at Anaheim Stadium (a Christian event), with bands and Pastor Greg Laurie will be speaking (he just lost his son last month in a car accident).

So I have a PACKED weekend...lucky I took that nap (I'm already over the guilt) LOL !
