Homecoming Fashion 2011

Over the years fashion & dance rules sure have changed. Most of the kids would rather go with a group of friends rather than have dates. They want to "keep their options open." My hubby never wants to let Elijah go unless he has a date...so I have to tell him, "Times have changed since the 80's!"

So let me share a little Homecoming 2011 Fashion Show with y'all. The boys tend to dress down & have fun with their looks, while the girls follow the latest fashion trends. Luckily the internet has afforded us with an availability to view fashion from all over the world. This definitely helps the girls in their dress/shoe choices, since in our laid back beach community dressing up usually consists of putting on a pair of closed toe shoes instead of flip flops.

 A BIG thanks to my step-mom Rolene who took these photo's for me while I was in the hospital. It's always a fun event for the parents too. We hang out, eat, drink, visit & take pictures at the pre-dance party. It's quite an evening for everyone!

Homecoming Fashion

Last Saturday was the big High School Homecoming dance. My two boys actually ended up dressing alike, not on purpose. Elijah's date bought leopard shoes w/ a red bow. My goal was to find a skinny, retro 80's style leopard print tie.

I thought it would look so cool, match his date & stand out from the crowd. But I couldn't find one anywhere, so we had to go w/ a red tie just like Adam's (thus the twin look) They didn't go together so no one knew until I posted these pictures!

Adam left with friends & we headed over to the house where the bus was going to pick the kids up to take pictures. So here's a little bit of how it all went down...Homecoming Fashion in Orange County, CA.

K, Really?

Yesterday felt like I was in the movie, "Groundhog Day." After I got off work at 1:00p.m., I raced around, ordered the wrist corsage for Elijah's date tomorrow night (Homecoming Dance). I had to get candy & a Starbuck's gift card for the cheerleader who was postering our house for the football game tonight, and get my dogs pills (she has a leaking problem & the pills really help), then be at the football field at 3:00 p.m. for the JV game (I'm the team photographer).

My son played AMAZING! We won 13-12...whew! They put him at running back for the second time & he was unstoppable. He also played defense (linebacker) so he was pretty wiped out after playing both ways for 2 hours. Guess that'll explain the next part of my day.

I took him back to the school to get his stuff after the game. Then rushed home to be there when the cheerleader arrived. Then Elijah says, "Oh no, I think I left my mouth piece sitting on the bench in the locker room. We jumped in the car and went back to the school. He had actually put it away. Then we raced back home because the cheerleader was there, gave her the candy/gift card & took pictures in front of the poster she put up on our garage.


THEN...Elijah says, "I can't find my varsity jersey! (he's supposed to wear it to school & the game on Friday) I think I left it out because it's not in my room!"

I got back in the car & went to the school for the 3rd time! It wasn't there & he was stressing all night, (today at school he said one of the coaches found it & picked it up for him...lucky!)

What a day! Have you ever had a Groundhog Day?

First Date-Homecoming Dance

My son will be going on his very first date to his high school homecoming dance. Here in Orange County it's a big thing to think of some really special way to ask a girl to the dance. No one just asks them. You have to be original. Which of course usually leaves it up to the moms to come up with a great idea. Obviously a high school teenage boy doesn't think about that kind of stuff.

He decided to ask our friends GORGEOUS daughter.

Funny how protective I am as a mom, I don't want my baby boy to be rejected, so I had my hubby send out a text to our friend asking, "Elijah is thinking about asking Olivia to the dance, is she able to go on a date yet & do you think she would want too? Oh & don't tell her. "

They said, "She can, it just depends on whether she can break her plans with her friends (they already had a bus set up)."

LOL...I'm bad huh?

We typed up a note that said, "Olivia, will you go to the Homecoming Dance with me? Elijah"
Then typed up a bunch of other notes that said, "Not the right one, pick another one."

We headed off to Party City, got twelve helium balloons in her two favorite colors, (Elijah texted one of her friends to find out), bought confetti, folded the notes & placed a note & confetti in each balloon & then had them fill it with helium.

We typed up a scroll that said, "Pop a balloon find the note." Then headed to her house. He came back really quick still carrying the balloons & said, "Someone's in the kitchen & they can see me." I told him just do it & his friend Ryan who went with us said, "Do it!" So he ran up, set the balloons on the front porch, rang the doorbell & ran back to the getaway car before they could see us.

Fifteen minutes later she texted, "YES" with a heart.

I guess she popped all the balloons & didn't find the question until the very last one! Couldn't have worked out better if we had numbered them.

You KNOW I'll be posting TONS of pics...

AND...he just found out today that he was nominated for Sophomore class Homecoming Prince. He was nominated last year too but didn't win (Olivia's cousin did)...maybe this time.
