Plan B

If you read my previous post you know we had tickets for the premier of "Sing Off." We were going to head out to LA right after work...everything was all set UNTIL my husbands old injury flared up.

He was ran over by a car when he was 21 yrs. old. His arm was torn almost completely off. He had to have skin graphs & reconstructive surgery to fix it. The dr.'s told him he would probably never have full use of it again. Well being a young kid, he didn't accept that and decided to do his own style of after hours rehabilitation. He would get drunk and then swing his arm around & move it as much as possible, definitely not the standard method, but it worked & he regained full use.

Fast forward, 24 years later...the cold weather we've been having has made his arm pain unbearable. He went to the chiropractor to try and get some relief before we went to the show. It took way longer than expected. I told him to get ready fast & we'd still try to make it. By the time we left we had only a half hour till the doors opened & it would take us at least 1 1/2 hrs to get there in traffic.

Now we were all dressed up and nowhere to go (sigh).

We decided to go to the $3.00 movie theater by our house and saw the true story "Secretariat." It ended up being a great night...I LOVED THAT MOVIE! My hubby was pleasantly surprised and wants to get it for his dad. You don't have to be a fan of horse racing to enjoy this movie, it's uplifting and encouraging, things we all need at one time or another. Be sure to rent it when it comes out...you wont be disappointed.

Just goes to show you that Plan B can be just as good.

Moral of this post: Be open to change

Lazy Weekend Ramblings

Why does it always seem like you need a vacation from your vacation? I spent most of the weekend sleeping. I felt guilty on Saturday because I did absolutely nothing...I didn't even unpack my suitcase. Finally about 7:30 p.m. we went out for sushi and a movie for our date night. The 10:00 o'clock movie was the best because there was no one in the theater at all. We saw, "A Perfect Getaway," which wasn't the best movie, but it did have a twist. If you are looking for a super funny rental you have to see, "I LOVE YOU MAN". We saw this in the theater a while back and I was laughing out loud the entire time (which I never usually do). It is a crack up...MUST SEE!

Sunday we went to church, went downtown had some pizza with the kids, checked out the surf to see if anyone wanted to go out (it was small and mushy) so we came home and slept again. I think I'm sub-consciously gearing up for school to start. Not to mention Hell Week starting tomorrow for Adam & Elijah. Which means tons of running around and early mornings for two a day practices. I also decided to seriously try to get in bed by midnight instead of 2 or 3 a.m. every day. Even if I have to lay there for an hour awake, I'm just going to make sure I'm off the computer by then (if any of you notice my posts are after midnight, PLEASE feel free to call me out!)

One more thing...I'm tired of feeling gross. I've been pretty lucky most of my life and never really had to work out or watch my weight. I've noticed lately that I'm really putting on the lbs. I think that my late nights (along with my 1:00 a.m. bowl of cereal) is packing it on me. I got on my mini stair stepper tonight with arm weights and did some floor exercises. I'm going to be more consistent...I don't feel good about myself at this weight so I'm making an honest effort to drop some lbs.

Well that's it for my lazy weekend ramblings....thanks for listening, I feel much better already!

I Did It!

I'm so proud of myself...I set a goal to clean all day Saturday so I wouldn't be a raving B***** by Thursday for the graduation, and I actually did it. I had Adam and Elijah help, they scrubbed the walls (I thought that might teach them to not drag their dirty hands across the walls & help me at the same.) I scrubbed the fridge...found lots of old treats tucked away far in the back, growing some fuzz (my family is not to big on leftovers)...cleaned floor boards, my room and the bathroom. All the deep cleaning that I put off week after week. I still have more things to do, but I feel happy that I wont be trying to do all of it on the day of graduation.

Last night after I finished cleaning, the little guys (yes I'm referring to my 15 & 14 year olds), brought two girls home with them from the beach (one goes to high school with Adam). I assumed that one was for Adam (15) year old, he loves the ladies and is always on the hunt for a new one. I thought Elijah was just entertaining the friend so Adam could get to know his "little friend" better. They went to the pool and then came back to watch a movie. I kept going into the kitchen to "get things" and check on everyone...the hormones are raging at that age and I needed to keep an eye on the whole situation, LOL.

Today I found out that Elijah liked the girl that goes to Adam's high school and Adam liked the friend. So here's the thing, Elijah's in 8th grade and I'm not to sure about the older woman thing! I know I NEVER would've liked someone younger than me, most girls go for the older guys.

Why do they have to grow up?

Oh guess what, I sold my very first item on EBay. I had the kids clean out their closet and I listed two pairs of shorts...the Quicksilver shorts sold for 3.99. I was so excited...until I noticed the snaps on one of the pockets was broken. So I panicked and thought, "GREAT...my very first item and if I send it out like this I will get a bad rating and no one will buy from me in the future. So I jumped in my car, ran to a few cleaners until one of them said they could fix it. Now I pick them up on Monday to mail out...and it will cost me about $5.00!!! So I'm going to be paying someone to give them some shorts!LOL! Only in my world (I'm quite the entrepreneur don't ya think?) Give me a call if you need some help losing money!!hahahaha! I definitely learned a lesson, and I will be checking and re-checking everything before I list it. I always have to learn lessons the hard way. Well enough of my ramblings, I'm going to actually try to go to bed early for a change!

Weird Halloween

Last night, the kids got ready and had us drop them off with their friends. We received a phone call around 11:00 p.m. to pick them up...this is the first year that we didn't go out with them. My baby's are officially all grown up. I feel so old, this is the first year that we didn't go with the "little guys." That's what we still call them even though my little guy is taller than me and Adam is getting there.

Me and Anthony went and had some sushi, rented a movie (Leatherheads) got some ice cream and went home. So it was definitely a weird one. Makes me sad to think that my days of getting them ready, walking around from house to house and sneaking candy out of their bags when they weren't looking is over. Now I guess I'll have to resort to sneaking the candy out of their rooms.

Unfortunately they get a lot smarter when they're older and they hide the stash. My husband is actually worse than me when it comes to chocolate. He would leave the kids in tears when they would reach for the one BIG candy bar that they were lucky enough to get...only to find the empty wrapper in its place.

Now begins a new chapter...we are old!

Ryan Seacrest Stopped By...WOO HOO!

Today I've designated as movie day...it also will help give back to CHOC Hospital (Childrens Hospital, Orange County).

I know ALL of you have heard of Ryan Seacrest (American Idol host) and his radio show KIIS FM...well they visited CHOC Hospital to try and cheer up the kids who are VERY sick. Our son's team mate and friend is there and they paid him a visit (stop by his blog) http://LukeGane.Blogspot.com. Luke has a video message he posted for all his friends and family...a MUST SEE, here is the direct link http://lukegane.blogspot.com/2008/09/video-message-from-luke.html.

KIIS shot a video on Saturday and it's on this link
http://www.kiisfm.com/pages/lollipoplive08/?_show It's the Viral Video. Just click on the photo and you will catch a few quick shots of Luke getting down...it's a fun video.

Check out the entire site. Make sure to watch the video because if they get at least 100,000 hits, the Anaheim Ducks will donate $10k to CHOC.
