THE PRICE IS RIGHT-COME ON DOWN!

Me, My Mom & Sister Stacy

My mom came down for a visit & to watch 3 of my youngest son Elijah's football games (she's never been able to see him play in person) and also walk in the Stop Cancer 5K (see previous post HERE) with us..so we were really looking forward to it.

I had signed up with an on-camera audience website a while back to go watch one of my fav dance shows live. They kept my email address on record and I received a PRIORITY ticket to go see THE PRICE IS RIGHT (Watch here if you miss the episode on 10/17/12). Priority meaning, guaranteed entrance, no waiting to get in for hours & the possibility of making a good impression with the producers to actually get on the show and win some big prizes!

I knew my mom & sister loved the show so I clicked on the link and scored my tix. Everybody was really looking forward to it & we planned on wearing our "Miracle Walker's" shirts from our 5k, which was perfect since it's cancer awareness month. While waiting to talk to the producer a man came up to us who was in line quite a ways behind us & said, "Are you Dave Bolda's family?" (my dad's picture was on the back of our shirts.) He proceeded to tell us that he was down visiting from Utah & is a Provo Firefighter who worked with my dad on several search & rescue missions. He wanted to tell us what an amazing man my dad was! We couldn't believe it...what a small world! Well we all fought back the tears (didn't want to ruin our camera ready makeup) gathered ourselves up, very grateful for the wonderful words and knowing that even if we didn't get picked...that made our day!

We headed to the interview section which happened while we were still in line, they just scooted a group of about 15 of us forward a few feet away from the crowd & while still in a line we spoke to the producer for a quick 2-4 minute "impression session." After we finished we knew that one girl in our group was IN for sure (Brittany) she was a character & turned it on during her interview. As we headed to wait to go inside while they made their decision, several people came up to my mom & said, "You're SO IN!" They were high fiving her and said you'll see. They didn't even hear the interview...they just saw how cute & fun my mom was (she has fans wherever she goes!;D) Once inside were put in one section & then after the producers came in & looked at us a few times, someone came over & moved us closer to the edge (wink, wink)...okay, that was a pretty telling clue that one of us was getting up there! SO PEOPLE...now you can tune in or dvr TOMORROW'S Price is Right show & watch to see if any of us actually get up on stage let's hope ("the camera adds 10 pounds theory") isn't true!! Sorry, but no info allowed until the air date 10/17/12, well detailed info anyways!!

Edison vs. Villa Park

Edison Team Captains: Derek Baljou, Alek Torgersen, Elijah Herrera, and Garrett Garcia

Last week Edison played Garfield for their first game. Edison won 24-0, but had a slow start offensively. They were able to find their rhythm in the second half. I was very impressed with the solid performance of the defense and of course my son, Elijah Herrera (OLB/RB). He's a 3 year starter and received All League Honors last year at both running back and outside linebacker. He's worked so hard as a two way starter and special teams. Last year he broke a 43 year old school record for the longest kickoff return for a touchdown- 99 yards. During last weeks game he received a break and played mainly defense, but he's been working hard all summer and is definitely ready to go both ways again this year.

He's been receiving some interest from University of Colorado Buffaloes, University of Miami, University of San Diego, University of Montana as well as contact with San Diego State, Harvard and Brown. He's looking to definitely have a breakout year and hopefully receive a scholarship.

Edison is coming off of a win last week and had a great summer where they won their passing tournament, "Battle at the Beach" going undefeated and beating Mater Dei in the final game. Across town on the same day their lineman won the Santa Margarita Lineman Competition. Edison is stacked with one of the biggest and most agile lines they've had in years. Alek Torgersen is a talented and smart quarterback with an incredible arm; add to that two speedy, skilled running backs, Elijah Herrera and Marquis Ross and you have a very balanced offense this year. The quick and experienced group of line backers will add to the strength of this years team. So, as Edison prepares to play Villa Park for the very first time, which is the, "Game of the Week," OC Varsity stopped by Edison and interviewed Elijah.

It should be a great match up and give us a look into the teams in our new CIF Southwest playoff division this year. So stay tuned...kickoff is Thursday @ Huntington Beach High School, 7:00 p.m.

Job Interview

We've been sending out Resume's to EVERYONE. You can definitely see how the economy is affecting the available job market. I thought that the lower paying jobs (for kids) would be a little easier to get. Josh has been trying to find a job now for what seems like forever. He finally received a call and has an interview tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. Keep your fingers crossed...he really needs this job! It's right across the street from my house too, which would make it really convenient.

Josh's dad asked him to move out last week. Josh moved in with him when he turned 18. He spent years hurting because his dad never wanted to have a relationship with him. Now his dad and new wife are having a baby and told Josh he needs to find somewhere else to live. He's really upset and angry with him. I think he feels like he is just throwing him away because he has a new family. His dad was a party buddy and not really a parent.

I'm hoping he moves back here...I'm one of those mom's who loves having her kids at home. Most parents say, "I can't wait till they move out!" But I cried for weeks when Josh left. I guess when you have kids they'll always be your babies, even when they grow up.

I need to learn not to be an enabler though...I tend to help Josh a lot because of his ADD. He has definitely gotten better over the years, but I still find myself doing too much for him to try and make things easier. I've learned that I need to step back and let him fail sometimes so he can grow and learn from his mistakes. Even after 20 years of being a mother, I'm still constantly learning and growing. By the time Elijah's 18 I hope I have this whole parenting thing mastered. No wonder grandparents are so awesome with the kids...they've had years to perfect themselves!

THE FUNDRAISER WAS AWESOME!

The fundraiser for Luke..."Locks for Luke" was amazing. It started at 7:00 am and one of our rival schools, Servite High School was the first team there (even before our boys from Edison arrived). They came to get their heads shaved and show support. After they were done, they huddled in a circle in the parking lot and prayed for Luke. The Huntington Beach Fire Dept. showed up and shaved their heads. Fox Sports Net was there interviewing and covering the whole event.

What an incredible day...it sure renews your faith in people!
