Powering Through It

First of all...thank you all for your comments and suggestions regarding my back issue! I decided my first course of action is going to be powering through it. I'm beginning a SLOW stretching routine every morning and night, followed by walking the dog with my husband again nightly. I've got to tell ya, some days are better than others and our walks may be a little slower than my hubby or dog would like...but I'm not going to let this back thing keep me down!

I also decided if it doesn't get better soon with the things I'm doing, I'm going to try the acupuncturist that cured my sons 3rd degree ankle sprain (a complete tear of the ligaments) in two days! Seriously...TWO DAYS of treatment! It was crazy, he was even able to play in the State Semi-Final football game without re-injuring it. He obviously wasn't able to run as fast and play both ways, but he played and made some key tackles. It was truly my first experience with going to one after a suggestion from a friend who's son plays linebacker for UCLA. This was after the Orthopedic Doctor told him it will take months of healing and rehabilitation and he absolutely wouldn't be able to play in that HUGE game...he wasn't even able to put weight on it!!

So I figure, if it can work for a torn ligament, it should do wonders for scar tissue right?! Well it definitely can't make it worse...so if I go that route I'll let you know how it goes.

It's Back

Last week I started to feel that same low back pain that prompted me to go to the doctors 1 year ago. It then led to that TERRIBLE surgery that caused my intestines to become blocked, tube down my nose and unbearable pain as I laid throwing up in the hospital for a week. The cause of my severe back pain before was from an accumulation of scar tissue from previous surgeries I've had. The doctor cleaned it all out but warned me that it would probably come back.

Well...it's back and I'm really struggling, especially because I really want to start exercising again to get in shape before our first trip to New York in April for my sister-in-laws wedding. I can barely walk or move quickly because it kills me! It's SO frustrating...I feel like a little old lady or something. I absolutely refuse to go to the doctors again though so I think I'm just going to try to stretch (a lot), get a few massages and pray that it goes away.

We'll see.....

What Have I Done Now?

After about 5 months of skipping out on my Zumba class, due to back trouble (never found out what was wrong, but it finally went away) I've done something AGAIN!

I finally went back to my class on Saturday, and because I know I'm out of shape, I took it easy, or so I thought. On Sunday (Mother's Day-which was very nice by the way, I'll post about that on another day), I was sore. Yes, I expected and even welcomed the soreness, sure that it was working in all the right areas that needed summer toning. BUT I didn't expect what happened Sunday night. I got in bed and shortly after started having severe knife stabbing pains in my groin. I could not move, turn, bend or straighten my leg without screaming out in pain. By the middle of the night (after being awake ALL night) I had to go to the bathroom. I literally had to lift my leg slowly with both hands (it felt like it was paralyzed.) By the time I finally made it to the toilet I was nauseous, sweaty and shaking from the pain. My hubby had to come & carry me back to bed.

Yesterday was spent without moving ALL day in bed. Today, I can move a little bit and can get up to go to the bathroom very slowly, with the aid of crutches...but still couldn't go to work.

This is SO RIDICULOUS! I don't know if I've pulled or torn my groin...but this is some SERIOUS PAIN...ONLY ME!!!

Hermit

This is where I should've been...

I don't know what it is, but this past weekend I felt like a total hermit. I didn't want to leave the house at all. We got invited to a music/art show down in Santa Monica on Saturday night, but I was too lazy. I popped in movie after movie and just wrapped myself up in a blanket and layed around. So unlike me!

Even today, I'm off work and I was going to drop the kids off at school, attempt to go straight to the gym, (my back is still ridiculously sore-no idea why. Had an ultrasound to check my gall bladder, liver, kidney's and stomach-which came back okay. YAY! But what is this pain? X-Ray's next I guess. ) The gym didn't happen.

I was also going to head out to lay by the pool or ride my bike to the beach and write a little bit (it's a gorgeous day here today) but went upstairs to finish some reading, fell asleep and woke up at 12:00 p.m.! What's up with me? Well maybe my body just needs to rest?

So I feel like I've wasted my weekend and today by being non-productive. Hmmm...need to search for my lost motivation this week.

Check This Out...

We woke up on Friday morning at 1:30 a.m. to head over to the high school to decorate for the traditional Edison vs. Fountain Valley Bell game. I've never been able to participate in prior years because I couldn't get off of work. I was finally able to this year. I have to tell you it's A LOT of work but it is worth it! The entire school is completely covered...even the sidewalk. Here's some pics~

Normally I wouldn't have a problem, but half way through it my back was KILLING me. I had to wear that stupid boot since I broke my foot and a tennis shoe on the other foot. I was totally lopsided...which I didn't even think about at the time. But three hours into it I was DYING! I felt like an old person...I was hobbling around holding my back.

Everyone went out to breakfast afterwards, but not me...I went home took four Advil & went to sleep. I was planning on waking up to go to the pep rally, but I was passed out. I finally woke up at 2:00 p.m. My back was still ridiculous...I started to get ready for the game, took more Advil and with total dread, put on that stupid boot. I'm over that thing!!

The good news is we beat Fountain Valley, no we KILLED them...it wasn't even a contest. Funny because it was televised and hyped up so much. We were both 8-0, with the winner basically sealing the championship. So it looks like we will be the #1 seed heading into CIF Championships in two weeks.

My back is feeling better too...just can't wait to be done wearing this boot. Next year I will make sure I'm not such a clutz so I can enjoy it a little more!

WAY TO GO EDISON!!
